Job description
Job Overview

The postholder's main day-to-day clinical role is providing Consultant Psychiatrist input for the Older Peoples Service. The two Older Peoples Service Consultant Psychiatrists will cover each other's leave. The CMHT operates in normal working hours, while the DIST provides an extended hours service 365 days a year. The CMHT undertakes the majority of new assessments, including memory assessment and treatment functions and care coordination duties. The IOPS responds to crisis referrals (seen within 4 hours) and most of the urgent referrals (seen within 72 hours) and provides intensive support to those in crisis and at risk of admission. The IOPS provides a gatekeeping role for admissions. Norfolk West Older Peoples Service patients also access specialist beds at the Julian Hospital in Norwich. These beds are managed by the Norfolk Central Older Peoples Service team and the West Norfolk IOPS liaises with those wards to facilitate early discharge from hospital.
