Job description

What if you could do the kind of work the world truly needs?

Join a global engineering consultancy that's shaping the future of energy infrastructure and contributing to the UK's journey to Net Zero. You'll collaborate with some of the brightest minds in the field, work on landmark projects, and have access to cutting‑edge tools and resources that enable you to do your best work.

The Role

As an Overhead Line (OHL) Engineer, you'll be part of a multidisciplinary team delivering the next generation of power transmission infrastructure. With major projects already underway and an exciting pipeline ahead, this is a fantastic opportunity to help design and deliver over 300km of new OHL systems across the UK.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design overhead power line systems, including the selection of structures, conductors, and insulators.

  • Prepare detailed engineering drawings, specifications, and design documentation using tools such as AutoCAD and PLS-CADD.

  • Conduct site surveys and assessments to inform design decisions.

  • Perform technical calculations to ensure the structural integrity and electrical performance of overhead lines.

  • Ensure designs comply with industry standards, safety regulations, and environmental requirements.

  • Collaborate with project managers, construction teams, and other stakeholders to deliver integrated project outcomes.

  • Review and approve design changes and provide technical support during construction.

  • Carry out quality assurance checks and design reviews.

  • Keep up to date with the latest technologies and practices in OHL design and transmission engineering.

About You

We're looking for someone who's technically skilled, collaborative, and passionate about making an impact in sustainable energy. You'll ideally have:

  • A degree in Electrical, Power, or Civil Engineering (or equivalent technical discipline).

  • Prior experience in overhead line design up to 400kV.

  • Experience with OHL upgrade projects (e.g. utilisation of High Temperature Low Sag conductors).

  • Knowledge of galloping studies, EMF and Field Effects calculations, wake effects, and AC interference (desirable).

  • Proficiency with design software such as PLS-CADD, PLS-POLE, and PLS-TOWER (advantageous).

  • The flexibility to travel for site visits and project delivery.

If you don't meet every requirement, we'd still love to hear from you - we value potential as much as experience.

What's in It for You
  • Flexible hybrid working - typically two days a week from home.

  • Career development - structured support for professional growth, mentoring, and Chartership.

  • Health and wellbeing - comprehensive support including access to medical consultations, wellness programmes, and discounted gym memberships.

  • Work-life balance - flexible hours, the option to purchase additional leave, and time each day for personal wellbeing.

  • Inclusive culture - a workplace that values diversity, authenticity, and collaboration.

Why Join Us

You'll be joining a forward‑thinking organisation committed to innovation, integrity, and inclusion. Our people are united by a shared purpose: to design and deliver infrastructure that has a lasting, positive impact on communities and the environment.

If you're ready to be part of something bigger - and build a better future for yourself and others - we'd love to hear from you.

Apply today and help power the future.
