Job Purpose The post holder will be responsible for the effective management and development of those in our care within the context of vocational training and employment. They will support those in our care in gaining nationally recognised qualifications aimed at improving their employment prospects on release

Responsibilities

Maintain security and discipline in the workplace by the monitoring of tool issue, rub down searches and searches of the workplace meeting security standards set by National policy

Ensure effective use of resources including budget, prisoner numbers, wages, materials, and equipment with functional areas

Ensure effective maintenance of machinery and equipment is carried out in accordance with regulations

Responsible for ensuring a safe environment for all women, young people, adults and staff, compliant with relevant standards through the application of regular Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment

Person Specification

Qualification Requirements

Served a recognised apprenticeship in Fabrication & Welding & achieved accredited qualifications at SVQ Level 3 or City & Guilds equivalent. ESSENTIAL

Hold either D32/D33 or equivalent (A1 or L & D9D (1)) or willing to work towards. ESSENTIAL

Knowledge, Skills and Experience Requirements

Experience of a diverse range of fabrication methods. ESSENTIAL

Sound knowledge of Health and Safety Legislation, particularly in relation to Risk Assessments, Safe Systems of Work and Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) Regulations. ESSENTIAL

A knowledge and understanding of the strategy for the management women and young people, Getting it Right for Every Child (GIRFEC) and the Vision for Young People in Custody. DESIRABLE

Experience in using Microsoft Word, Excel and associated software packages. ESSENTIAL
