Queen Victoria Hospital NHS Foundation Trust invites applications for a 12-month Fellowship post in ophthalmology with a primary interest in oculoplastics, orbital and lacrimal surgery. The post-holder will join the senior clinical team and contribute to CPD and revalidation in line with GMC guidelines.
Applicants should have completed their ophthalmology specialty training and meet the Royal College of Ophthalmologists competencies.
This post is suitable for those who are post-CCT with a primary interest in oculoplastics, orbital and lacrimal surgery. The appointment is for a period of 12 months.The post-holder will be part of the senior clinical team with a priority on the delivery of the service. The Trust will offer opportunities for continuing professional development and you will take responsibility for this in line with the Royal College of Ophthalmology guidelines.
The postholder will be required to work in accordance with the GMC Good Medical Practice and Trust policies and will be expected to engage in the appraisal and revalidation process.
Applicants should have completed their specialty training in Ophthalmology and fulfil all the competencies of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists Specialty Training Curriculum in this respect.
The post holder will gain extensive clinical and surgical experience in the diagnosis and management of patients with Oculoplastics, Lacrimal and Orbital disease and General Ophthalmology including anterior segment disorders. The post holder will be required to undertake surgery on such cases both under supervision and independently. The post holder will be encouraged to develop their clinical skills and progress in the post, taking on an increasingly complex caseload. Whilst service delivery is important, contributions to the wider trust as a medical leader in fields such as research, audit, outcomes, management and teaching will be expected and supported by the department and the Queen Victoria Hospital.
The ability to provide unsupervised cataract surgery to a competent level is a desirable but non-essential requirement of the Fellowship.
