Job summary

A leading NHS Trust in Newcastle upon Tyne is looking for an Occupational Therapy Assistant Practitioner. You will join the Integrated Community Occupational Therapy Team to assess and treat adults within their homes. The role includes 30 hours of work per week and some flexibility. Ideal candidates will have experience in rehabilitation services and strong interpersonal skills. You will work independently while supported by qualified therapists to manage a caseload effectively.

Job Summary

We are excited to offer a fantastic opportunity to join our Integrated Community Occupational Therapy Team as an Occupational Therapy Assistant Practitioner.

You will work as part of a team of experienced Health and Adult Social Care Occupational Therapists, Assistant Practitioners and Assistants to assess and treat adults with a range of conditions within their own homes.

You will be supported by the wider North Occupational Therapy Team and will work under the direction and supervision of a qualified Occupational Therapist. You will be expected to work independently to manage a non‑complex caseload of community patients appropriate to the role.

The role is 30 hours per week; we may be able to offer some flexibility in line with the requirements of the service. You will be required to travel independently and efficiently across a large geographical area to meet the requirements of the role.

Key Responsibilities
  • Demonstrate excellent interpersonal and communication skills, show initiative and team spirit, and be committed to patient care.
  • Be flexible and able to work in various locations in North Staffordshire as the service requires.
  • Understand and rehabilitation appropriate to the role.
  • Have good IT skills and knowledge of criteria for equipment provision.
  • Deliver a high standard of intervention while managing the demands of unplanned aspects of the role.
  • Take accountability for allocated assessments and planning and implementation of interventions within your caseload.
  • Escalate appropriately to a qualified team member when required.
Qualifications and Experience
  • Keen interest and/or experience of working in rehabilitation services and a demonstrated understanding of therapy and service needs.
  • Ability to assess new service user referrals and care/support needs.
  • Proactive in developing sound clinical skills in the assessment and management of patients in the rehabilitation and/or community environment.
  • Experience in deciding when to seek escalation to a qualified team member.
