You will support Occupational Therapists by delivering group and individual activities within the Model of Human Occupation framework, aiming to reduce risk and promote recovery.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of OT techniques/activities relevant to client group, NVQ3 level.
  • Willingness to undertake computing skills, group skills, and food handling within 12 months.
  • Desirable: Health & Safety Training; City & Guilds or Health & Social Care NVQ level 3.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate OT-based groups and work individually with service users.
  • Promote engagement in meaningful occupation to improve quality of life.
  • Provide sessions consistent with Trust standards and values.
  • Maintain clinical records using the electronic patient record system.
  • Liaise with carers and other professionals as relevant.
  • Attend mandatory training and track training/development activities.

Job description

A vacancy has arisen for an Occupational Therapy Assistant in our Low Secure Inpatient Male Forensic Service in Radlett. The post holder will be part of the Occupational Therapy lead Recovery team providing Occupationally Focused interventions under the guidance of qualified Occupational Therapists using the framework of the Model of Human Occupation. The team works within a Multi-disciplinary team of Psychiatrist, Nurses, Psychologists and Specialist Therapists with a focus of assisting service users to manage their personal risks and build skills to promote them along their recovery pathway.,

  • To facilitate occupationally based groups as identified by an Occupational Therapist.
  • To work individually with service users on specific tasks and therapeutic activity as identified by an Occupational Therapist.
  • To promote a culture of engagement in meaningful occupation within the service in order to enhance quality of life.
  • To provide interventions in the manner that is consistent with Trust standards and values.
  • To provide feedback to the team regarding observed occupational performance during a session which will contribute to assessment and therapeutic interventions.
  • To maintain clinical records using the electronic patient record system.
  • To liaise with carers and other professionals as relevant.
  • To exercise good personal time management, punctuality and consistent reliable attendance.
  • To attend mandatory training.
  • To undertake relevant activities to meet training objectives identified with your supervisor.
  • To keep a record of your training and development activities.
Essential criteria
  • Knowledge of OT techniques and/or activities relevant to client group; acquired through training, experience within an OT/mental health setting to NVQ3 equivalent level
  • Willingness to undertake the following within 12 months of appointment, (Computing Skills, Group Skills, Food Handling)
Desirable criteria
  • Health and Safety Training Food Handling & Hygiene
  • Technical qualification e.g. City & Guilds or Health & Social Care NVQ level 3, Some experience working in paid or voluntary employment or community work relevant to post
