Band 7 Occupational Therapist – Medical Respiratory Therapy Team Lead (Fixed Term)

Responsibilities
  • Lead and supervise the Occupational Therapy practice within the Medical Respiratory Therapy Team at Bristol Royal Infirmary.
  • Manage and treat complex acute and respiratory medicine patients in an in‑patient environment using evidence‑based interventions.
  • Challenge current practice to ensure patients receive up‑to‑date treatments and best practice outcomes.
  • Teach, develop and supervise other Occupational Therapists and allied health professionals within the team.
  • Oversee caseloads of other team members and manage own workload to achieve clinical targets.
  • Commit to 1:4 weekend working + 2 bank holidays throughout the year.
  • Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to deliver holistic patient care.
Qualifications and Training – Essential
  • Diploma or Degree in Occupational Therapy.
  • HCPC UK registration.
  • Experience of acute and respiratory medicine including oxygen therapy, non‑invasive ventilation and tracheostomies.
  • Experience of people management and supervising junior staff and students.
  • Knowledge of clinical outcome measures, audit and change management.
  • Leadership, communication and organisational skills.
Qualifications and Training – Desirable
  • Evidence of further qualification (MSc or equivalent) in OT or respiratory.
  • Member of RCOT.
  • Management & leadership training.
  • Member of local or national Clinical Interest Group.
  • Previous experience of working as a Band 7 occupational therapist.
Employment Details
  • Fixed term – 11 months (end date 25/10/2026).
  • Full time – 37.5 hours per week.
  • Band 7 – Salary £47,810 to £54,710 a year pro rata.
  • Location – Bristol Royal Infirmary, Upper Maudlin Street, Bristol BS2 8HW.
