Job summary

The Dudley Group is seeking a Senior Occupational Therapist with substantial post‑graduate experience to lead rapid response, advanced assessment and treatment for complex cases within hospital and community settings.

You will supervise and train therapy staff, including band 5s, assistants and students, and take a coordinating role in delivering a 7‑day therapy service across clinical areas. Relevant NHS governance and leadership experience is essential.

  • HCPC registered and postgraduate training in a specialist area.
  • Ability to communicate clearly in writing and verbally with good documentation.
  • Autonomous practitioner with defined clinical area and ability to support others.
  • Strong planning, organisational, and time-management skills.
  • Demonstrates leadership and governance awareness within NHS frameworks.

Responsibilities

  • Provide rapid response, advanced assessment and treatment for complex/chronic presentations.
  • Deliver highly specialist advice to patients in hospital and community settings.
  • Supervise and train therapy staff including band 5, Therapy assistants and students.
  • Coordinate delivery of therapy services in the clinical area and support a 7-day service.
  • Contribute to service development and cross-team collaboration.

Job description

This is a senior occupational therapist post requiring significant post graduate experience. The post holder will be responsible for rapid response, advanced assessment & treatment of complex and /or chronic presentations and will provide highly specialist advice for patients within the hospital and community setting and teaching and training to therapy colleagues working in other clinical areas, and members of the multi-disciplinary team. The post holder will be responsible for supervision and training of other therapy staff including rotational band 5 staff, Therapy assistants and students. The post holder will also undertake a co-ordinating role in the delivery of the therapy service within their specific clinical area on a day-to-day basis and this will include the provision of a 7-day therapy service in our clinical specialities, Please refer to the job description for full details of the main duties and responsibilities that the post holder is required to undertake.

  • Degree/Diploma in Occupational Therapy
  • HCPC registered, Evidence of post graduate training in specialist clinical area
  • Have an understanding of developments within the NHS and the Trust, and their implication on Occupational Therapy, Able to delegate appropriately
  • Demonstrates the ability to effectively communicate, both written and orally, in a good clear and logical manner including good standard of documentation in application, Demonstrate understanding of the governance framework and relevance to clinical practice
  • Able to work as an autonomous practitioner in a defined clinical area and support others
  • Planning & Organisational Skills,
  • Evidence of leadership skills
  • Demonstrates evidence of effective self-management including time, prioritisation, clinical caseload and demanding situations, Values and behaviours that reflect the Trust values of Care, Respect and Responsibility
