Job description

Are you an Occupational Therapist who wants to make a meaningful difference to adults with physical disabilities and longer-term care and support needs?

Join our supportive Adult Community Team (ACT) and use your professional judgement, creativity and person-centred approach to help residents live safely and independently in their communities.

At Bracknell Forest, we pride ourselves on being a council which is stable and well-managed where our employees can thrive in a supportive environment. We understand the importance of a healthy work-life balance and offer a variety of flexible working practices, including options for remote working and arrangements that allow you to work from home, dependent on the needs of the service.

This role includes an expectation to work from our Time Square office 2-3 days per week, alongside flexible working arrangements.

Any successful internal candidate will be offered the position as a secondment and, in line with Section 8.1 of the Secondment Policy, must consult with their manager before applying. Search ‘secondment policy’ on the intranet for more information.

If you would like an informal chat or a tour of the office prior to submitting your application, please contact katherine.wheeler@bracknell-forest.gov.uk to arrange a suitable time.

About you…

As a qualified, HCPC-registered Occupational Therapist in our Adult Social Care Long Term ACT Team, you will be a confident, person-centred practitioner with strong assessment, communication and problem-solving skills.

You will bring experience of assessing adults with physical disabilities and longer-term care and support needs, including those with complex needs and presentations. A commitment to promoting independence, choice and control is essential, using practical, strengths-based and cost-effective solutions to help people live safely within their communities.

The role requires the ability to manage a varied caseload, work autonomously and collaborate effectively with residents, carers and partner agencies to achieve positive outcomes.

You will also have the skills to assess, plan and deliver interventions relating to manual handling, seating, equipment and minor adaptations. An understanding of safeguarding, Care Act requirements and professional accountability is important, alongside a commitment to ongoing learning, reflective practice and professional development.

About the team…

You will join a friendly, experienced and supportive Adult Community Team, working alongside colleagues who share knowledge, value different perspectives and collaborate to achieve positive outcomes for residents.

Based at Time Square in Bracknell, you will be part of a supportive team that values learning, reflective practice and continuous professional development. You will benefit from regular supervision, opportunities to enhance your skills and flexible hybrid working arrangements that balance individual and service needs.

Key responsibilities…
  • Work with individuals to identify their needs and undertake comprehensive assessments of adults with disabilities, including those with diverse or complex presentations, to maximise independence, choice and control through Care Act-compliant and cost-effective interventions.
  • Manage your own caseload, working collaboratively with colleagues across the People Directorate.
  • Work as an autonomous practitioner, taking accountability for all aspects of your practice, including the management of individuals in your care and your own supervision and appraisal.
  • Assess, plan and deliver interventions relating to manual handling, seating, equipment and minor adaptations.
  • Participate in safeguarding assessments and planning when required.
Our benefits…
  • 28 days annual leave increasing to 33 days after 3 years’ continuous service, with the opportunity to buy up to 10 and sell up to 5 days.
  • Hybrid working opportunities to support your wellbeing and work-life balance.
  • Paid employee volunteering scheme.
  • Local government pension scheme, with life insurance cover.
  • Reimbursement of one annual professional subscription/registration.
  • Reimbursement of HCPC registration.
  • Recognition of continuous service attained within the NHS and UKHSA when calculating some benefits. (Terms and Conditions apply)
  • Career development through internal and external training opportunities.
  • Enhanced maternity, paternity, adoption and fostering leave.
  • Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) to support your health and wellbeing
  • Inclusive and social working environment with a variety of staff networks and a sports and social club.
