Job summary

NHS Professionals is recruiting an Occupational Therapist (Community) to work within Herefordshire and Worcestershire Health Care NHS Trust in Worcester. You will manage a community caseload with hand therapy experience, providing client-centred assessments and interventions.

The post offers 37.5 hours per week on a 3-month placement with pay rates of £23.82 per hour, and benefits including weekly pay, NHS discounts, flexible shifts through NHSP, and access to development opportunities.

Qualifications

  • Degree/Diploma in Occupational Therapy from a recognised body.
  • Current Health Professions Council registration.
  • Full driving licence and able to travel as required.
  • Experience in health and social care settings, with hand therapy preferred.
  • Knowledge of disability equipment and client-centred care.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a community caseload within Worcester for clients with complex needs.
  • Conduct holistic home and community assessments and plan interventions.
  • Provide equipment and minor adaptations as required.
  • Maintain accurate written and electronic records in line with standards.
  • Coordinate major adaptations with statutory authorities when needed.
  • Liaise with clients, carers and other health professionals on care needs.
  • Prioritise referrals to ensure a responsive service.

What you can add:
  • Be part of a team and provide a specialist skilled Community Occupational Therapy Service. Working within the Trust policies and guidelines, as an autonomous practitioner, manage a caseload of clients with health needs, often of a complex nature, using evidence based/client centred principles to assess, plan, implement and evaluate interventions.
  • Undertake a holistic assessment of clients and carers within their home environment and community setting, including residential care settings.
  • Following assessment, interpret and analyse both clinical and non-clinical information in a range of multi-factorial complex acute and chronic conditions in order to identify clients’ needs.
  • Following assessment of client and identification of Occupational Therapy goals, implement appropriate treatment plan which may include provision of equipment and minor adaptations.
  • Ensure that up to date written and electronic records and activity data are maintained in accordance with Professional and Trust standards.
  • Undertake screening and prioritising of referrals to ensure a responsive service.
  • Based on Occupational Therapy assessment of client/carers needs, to undertake, initiate and co-ordinate major adaptations, e.g., stair-lifts, bathroom alterations, in conjunction with statutory authorities.
  • Liaise with and advise clients, carers and other Health Care Workers and outside agencies on manual handling issues.
  • Advise clients, relatives, carers and other professionals on managing issues arising from client’s physical / psychological / cognitive disability within the Occupational Therapist professional expertise.
  • Fitting and retrieval of equipment into patients’ homes, e.g. bed raisers, bathroom equipment, which may require working in restricted positions.
What you’ll need:
  • Degree/Diploma in Occupational Therapy
  • Current Health Professions Council registration
  • Current full driving licence - Able to meet the travel requirements of the role.
  • A range of post registration experience including in a health and social care setting.
  • High level of knowledge relating to disability equipment.
  • A good level of knowledge in a wide range of physical conditions.
  • Excellent communication skills, written and verbal.
In addition to experience, all Qualified roles will be required to provide evidence of

  • Registration with the relevant Registration Body if applicable.
