Job summary

Portland Charity's Mansfield campus is seeking an Occupational Therapist to manage a caseload within a multidisciplinary team, delivering evidence-based, person-centred assessments and interventions to maximise independence and life opportunities.

The role requires HCPC registration, RCOT membership and excellent communication, with a collaborative approach across sites in Nottinghamshire and travel as needed.

Qualifications

HCPC registered with valid registration
Membership of RCOT (Royal College of Occupational Therapists)
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Strong clinical reasoning and assessment abilities
Experience working in multidisciplinary, partnership-based environments
Experience using personal care and postural care equipment
Knowledge of safeguarding and ability to manage safeguarding concerns professionally
Experience supporting people with learning disabilities and sensory processing needs
Knowledge of relevant OFOT legislation and best practice

Responsibilities

Conduct occupational therapy assessments and interventions to support learner outcomes.
Collaborate with physiotherapists, speech and language therapists, positive behaviour support teams, tutors and learning support assistants.
Support learners to identify and achieve meaningful occupational goals.
Provide specialist occupational therapy advice, guidance and training.
Undertake risk assessments and implement risk management strategies.
Contribute to quality improvement and clinical governance activities.
Maintain high professional standards in line with HCPC and RCOT guidance

Job description

This is an exciting opportunity to work in a specialist educational environment where you can make a meaningful difference every day whilst developing your clinical skills alongside experienced professionals. This role is based at our main campus in Mansfield, but some travel across our other sites across Nottinghamshire is required.

About the Role

As an Occupational Therapist, you will manage your own caseload and work closely with learners, families and colleagues across the wider multidisciplinary team. You will deliver evidence‑based, person‑centred assessments and interventions that support learners to maximise their independence and life opportunities.

Key responsibilities include:

Conducting occupational therapy assessments and interventions that support learner outcomes.
Working collaboratively with physiotherapists, speech and language therapists, positive behaviour support teams, tutors and learning support assistants.
Supporting learners to identify and achieve meaningful occupational goals.
Providing specialist occupational therapy advice, guidance and training.

What We're Looking For:

We are seeking a qualified Occupational Therapist who:

Holds a Degree in Occupational Therapy or equivalent qualification.
Is HCPC registered.
Is a member of the Royal College of Occupational Therapists (RCOT).
Has excellent communication, interpersonal and report‑writing skills.
Has strong clinical reasoning and assessment skills.
Has demonstrable experience in working within multidisciplinary and partnership‑based environments.
Has experience of using personal care and postural care equipment.
Has a strong knowledge of safeguarding and has the ability to manage safeguarding concerns professionally.
Is experienced in supporting people with learning disabilities and sensory processing needs.
Has sound knowledge of relevant legislation and best practice relating to Occupational Therapy.

Pre-employment checks

As part of our pre-employment checks, we will be required to carry out an enhanced with child and adult barred lists DBS check – this role involves regulated activity.
