Job summary

We have an exciting part‑time opportunity for an Occupational Therapist to join our mental health team at HMP Wymott, a Category C male prison located in Leyland. Ideally, a car driver is required due to the location of the prison. HMP Wymott has a capacity of around 1,100 inmates and a varied and complex population. You will work as part of the team within the healthcare department and will be required to work on the prison wings.

Hours:

  • Monday – Friday
  • 18.75 hours per week
  • 8 am – 4 pm
  • Flexible on working days

Salary:

This position is part‑time; you’ll receive an annual salary between £43,609 – £49,175 per annum FTE, pro‑rata depending on experience.

Main duties of the job
  • Be responsible for the provision of occupational therapy assessment, treatment and evaluation.
  • Provide visible and professional support to ensure the delivery of high‑quality patient care and rehabilitation aimed at improving or maintaining independence.
  • Work with a caseload of patients with varying difficulties, including complete health and social care needs; respond effectively to changing patient needs and manage conflicting priorities of prevention of admission and discharge.
  • Assess and order equipment as identified by patient need and allocate work to OT assistant or care staff as necessary. Establish communication networks with other team members, patients and other health and social care agencies, attending joint visits with other professionals as required.

Qualifications
  • Diploma/degree in occupational therapy with current professional qualification (HCPC)
  • Post‑registration experience and evidence of continued professional development
  • Understanding of the complexities of multi‑disciplinary and multi‑agency working
  • Understanding of clinical governance, health and safety, QOF, EBP and national standards

Although not essential, ideal applicants would have experience in a hospital, community or prison environment.
