Job description

Occupational Therapist

Role Responsibility

At Kent County Council, Occupational Therapy is viewed as a critical service in enabling people to live their lives in the way that most matters to them. Our community Occupational Therapy Teams are co-located with our in-house enablement services and work alongside our Community Social Work, Adult Social Care Connect and Short-Term Pathway Teams. This gives us the opportunity to work in a coordinated, preventative, and creative way to maximise people's independence.

We currently have opportunity for an Experienced Occupational Therapist to join our East Kent Community Teams. This post is a flexible position requiring travel across East Kent providing cover across 5 teams - Ashford, Canterbury, Shepway, Dover/Deal and Thanet. Office base to be discussed at interview.

We offer an excellent induction and ongoing training package, to facilitate you to develop your expertise within moving and handling, enablement techniques, specialist equipment and major adaptations, thus ensuring that the people we support receive high quality, personalised interventions that genuinely improve lives. You will receive regular individual supervision from a registered Occupational Therapy Lead and a tailored personal development plan to enable you to develop your career pathway within Kent and be the best that you can be.

Kent County Council is committed to flexible and hybrid working opportunities and although we complete our assessments and interventions within a person's own residence or short-term assessment bed setting, our Occupational Therapists work their non-clinical time between an office base and/or their home.

Kent County Council is also committed to ensuring that it is increasingly accessible to the public outside of traditional office hours and although Occupational Therapists are not working on a rota basis to deliver a service seven days per week, this may be required in the future.

Ability to travel across a wide geographical area in a timely and flexible manner to ensure the needs of the service are met, including evening and weekend working when required.

We are committed to service user and carer involvement and seek to involve service users and carers in our recruitment processes.

This post is subject to an Enhanced Disclosure application to the Disclosure and Barring service and registration as a qualified Occupational Therapist with the Health and Care Professions Council.

This post is considered by KCC to be a customer-facing position. The Council, therefore, has a statutory duty under Part 7 of the Immigration Act (2016) to ensure that post holders have a command of spoken English/Welsh sufficient for the effective performance of the job requirements. The appropriate standards are set out in the Job Description/Person Specification.

Interviews will be held on Tuesday, 6 October 2026 at Brook House, Whitstable.
