Job description

Exciting Opportunity for an enthusiastic Band 6 Occupational Therapist!

Are you ready to make a real difference in the lives of adults facing mental health challenges? Langley Green Hospital in Crawley is looking for an enthusiastic and dedicated Band 6 Occupational Therapist with experience of working with people with mental health difficulties to join our dynamic Acute OT Therapies Team. The role is 30 hours per week.

You will take a lead for one of our wards and be responsible for providing specialist occupational therapy assessment, treatment planning, and 1:1 and group interventions to adults with acute mental health needs, taking a recovery-focused approach.

You will be an integral part of the ward multidisciplinary team and play a key role in contributing to safe and effective discharges.

We welcome candidates with effective communication and organisation skills, a compassionate, person-centred approach, able to demonstrate confidence and self-awareness and above all a caring attitude and desire to make a difference.

This is a great opportunity as a band 6 OT to bring your expertise and skills to the team or if you would like to broaden your existing knowledge within acute mental health. This could also be an opportunity for an experienced band 5 OT for career development if you feel ready to increase your level of challenge and responsibility.

  • You will provide specialist occupational therapy assessment and interventions using evidence-based, client-centred approaches to assess, plan, implement and evaluate interventions, with an emphasis on relapse prevention, establishment of meaningful routines, and promotion of recovery.

In collaboration with the ward MDT and patients families, carers and support networks, you will take a pivotal role in discharge planning for patients, ensuring a smooth, timely transition back into the community. The role includes some OT assessments in home environments to identify OT interventions, equipment and support needs as part of discharge planning.

Group work is an important aspect of the Therapeutic Programme at Langley Green Hospital. The role includes psychoeducational and therapeutic group facilitation and involvement in the development and coordination of the programme.

  • You will provide clinical supervision and leadership support to others in the OT team, including band 5 OTs, OT clinical support workers, activity worker support staff, lived experience recovery workers, and OT students, fostering a culture of continuous learning and growth.

There is an expectation to be involved in projects and service developments happening within the team, giving opportunity to develop both your own skills and to contribute to continuous service improvements.

  • We encourage and support learning and professional development. In return for your skills and expertise we can offer you highly rewarding work within an established, innovative, forward thinking occupational therapy team that prides itself on being a supportive team.
  • We offer regular clinical and professional supervision, and yearly appraisals. We have a robust range of AHP training, OT networking and CPD opportunities, with a strong professional structure in place. You will have access to our fantastic AHP training prospectus, with a range of AHP training opportunities and Communities of Practice including Sensory Processing, Recovery through Activity, Occupational Formulation, and Research and Innovation.
  • We believe collaboration is key, and encourage and support involvement with innovation and continuous quality improvement projects across the hospital.
