Job summary

Cardiff and Vale University Health Board is seeking a Healthcare Support Worker to deliver high standards of direct patient care under the direction of a Registered Nurse. You will assist with daily living activities, maintain dignity and report patient information accurately.

You will undertake basic clinical observations, support infection prevention, and contribute to maintaining a safe, hygienic environment.

Qualifications

  • Level 3 qualification in health and social care or equivalent experience with evidence of care competency
  • Knowledge of the Code of Conduct for Healthcare Support Workers in Wales and All Wales Delegation Guidelines (HEIW)
  • Knowledge of NHS policies and patient confidentiality incl. GDPR
  • Experience in health or social care settings providing direct patient care
  • Willingness to work across shift patterns including days, nights, weekends and holidays
  • Welsh language skills desirable (level 1-5)

Job description

Deliver high standards of direct patient care under the direction of a Registered Nurse. Support patients with activities of daily living whilst maintaining dignity and respect. Record and report patient information accurately. Undertake clinical observations and other delegated clinical duties appropriate to your level of competence. Support infection prevention and control practices. Contribute to maintaining a safe clinical environment.

Undertakes personal care activities and clinical care duties with minimal support and supervision as delegated by a registered healthcare professional in accordance with the HEIW All Wales Guidelines for Delegation. Ensures the registered healthcare professional is regularly updated on the patients/clients condition and progress. Ensures the working environment is safe and hygienic following infection prevention and control policies and processes. Contributes to the teaching and supervision of students and junior staff. Delivers role in accordance with Health Board/Trust Values and Code of Conduct for HCSWs in Wales.

The successful candidates will be expected to demonstrate flexibility to meet the needs of a 24-hour service. Posts will involve working a range of shifts, including days, nights, weekends and bank holidays. You will have excellent communication skills, a caring and professional approach, and a commitment to delivering high standards of patient care. You will hold a relevant Level 3 qualification in Health and Social Care (or equivalent experience) and demonstrate the values and behaviours expected within Cardiff and Vale UHB,

  • Level 3 qualification in a health care related subject Or Equivalent experience and can evidence work based competency demonstrating theoretical knowledge, and the ability to undertake clinical care duties relevant for the role which is gained through experience and worked based training/short courses
  • Knowledge of the Code of Conduct for Healthcare Support Workers in Wales and All Wales Delegation Guidelines (HEIW)
  • Knowledge of relevant policies and procedures within a healthcare setting for example the principles of Safeguarding adults/children to keep patients within their care safe, and confidentiality for example General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR), Experience of working within a relevant heath or social care environment, providing direct patient care, Experience of working with patient groups relevant to area of practice
  • Experience of working within the NHS

  • Physically able to carry out the duties of the role, including lifting, assisting with mobility, and performing other manual tasks.
  • Welsh Language Skills are desirable levels 1 to 5 in understanding, speaking, reading, and writing in Welsh.
  • Ability to work a range of shift patterns
