Job summary

Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust invites applications for a Band 4 Nurse Associate across our Neonatal services, including the NICU at Oxford Road Campus and the Wythenshawe and North Manchester Neonatal Units. You will join the neonatal nursing workforce to deliver high-quality care to infants.

You will work within Special Care areas and postnatal wards, supported to contribute to ICU and High Dependency care with the Registered Neonatal Nursing team, developing skills and fostering

The Division of Newborn Services is a Neonatal Managed Clinical Service (MCS) operating across three sites. We are seeking the right individual to join our established Band 4 Nurse Associate team, working alongside the neonatal nursing workforce across our busy newborn service, which includes the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at the Oxford Road Campus, Wythenshawe Neonatal Unit, and North Manchester Neonatal Unit.

This is a highly successful and dynamic service with a strong reputation for delivering exceptional standards of compassionate clinical care, education, and research. You must be a team player with exemplary communication and interpersonal skills. We are looking for a caring, compassionate, skilled, and knowledgeable Nursing Associates who thrive in a busy and fast-paced environment. You will be committed to supporting the development of both yourself and others, and motivated to work collaboratively to ensure the highest standards of care for infants and their families.

You will bring experience in delivering high-quality, safe, and effective care, understanding the essential elements of care that are delegated to you. You will provide care within the Special Care areas of the neonatal unit and on the postnatal wards. With comprehensive education and training, you will also be supported to contribute to the safe delivery of neonatal care in the Intensive Care and High Dependency areas, working alongside the Registered Neonatal Nursing team.

Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check

As part of our commitment to safeguarding patients and staff, many roles at Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust (MFT) require a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check. This is a standard process across the NHS and helps us ensure a safe environment for everyone.

What is a DBS Check?

A DBS check is a background check that reveals any criminal convictions, cautions, reprimands, or warnings. The level of check required depends on the role:

Standard DBS: Checks for spent and unspent convictions, cautions, reprimands, and final warnings.

Enhanced DBS: Includes the above, plus any additional information held by local police that’s considered relevant to the role.

Enhanced with Barred Lists: Includes all of the above, plus checks against the children’s and/or adults’ barred lists.

Who Needs a DBS Check

Most roles involving direct patient contact, working with children or vulnerable adults, or access to sensitive information will require a DBS check. The job advert and recruitment team will let you know if this applies to your role.

The Costs for a DBS

At Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust (MFT), roles that require a DBS check are subject to a cost recovery policy. This means that the cost of submitting and processing a DBS application if you are successful and join us, will be deducted from your salary within the first three months of employment. If, however, you withdraw from a conditional offer after the DBS process has begun, you will still be liable for the cost incurred.

Qualifications, Knowledge and Experience

• Registered Nursing Associate on the NMC register
• Nursing Association Foundation Degree Qualification
• GCSE Maths and English Level 4 or above
• Understand and act in line with the NMC
• Understanding the importance of following procedures and policies
• Evidence of teamwork and prioritising workload
• Working within the health care setting
• Knowledge of when to seek advice and elevate accordingly.
• Experience within a critical care area
