Job Overview

Ward F6 is a 32‑bed ward and F2N is a 16‑bed ward with an additional 4 beds in a high‑care bay as part of the ERAS‑c phase 2 pathway. Both wards are Cardiac Surgery wards caring for patients undergoing routine and complex cardiac and aortic surgery. The 4‑bed ERAS bay on F2N is for fast‑track patients undergoing cardiac surgery as part of the ERAS‑c pathway phase 2, including those with arterial, central lines, noradrenaline, pacing wires and drains 8 hours after surgery.

We’re looking for compassionate and caring Nursing Assistants with a passion to be a key part of the patient care journey here at Manchester University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (MFT). Our Nursing Assistants take great pride in the essential work we do. We’re not just helping patients – we’re going the extra mile for them day in, day out, committed to caring for patients and families with consistent, high‑quality, patient‑focused care.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist the Nursing team in delivering excellent patient care under the supervision of Registered Nurses and in line with Trust guidelines and protocols.
  • Support patients with personal care needs, including mobilisation, toileting, bathing, dressing, eating and drinking.
  • Record patient observations and changes to patient conditions as part of delegated clinical duties.
  • Communicate in a sensitive and compassionate manner with patients, relatives and the multi‑disciplinary team, working flexibly across day and night shifts for seven days a week.
Training and Development

Onjoining MFT, you will receive the Support Worker Development Programme for Nursing Assistants, which includes completion of the Care Certificate for candidates who have not completed this previously. The completion of this programme will give you the opportunity to progress into a Band 3 Nursing Assistant role.

Experienced Nursing Assistants will undertake a skills analysis at the start of employment to assess gap areas. Relevant clinical skills modules will be provided to support progression to a Band 3 post upon completion.
