Job Overview

The Respiratory Intervention service at the John Radcliffe Hospital currently has a 12 month secondment opportunity for a full‑time band 3 nursing assistant. The service provides bronchoscopy and pleural procedures to a variety of patients.

Role Description

We are a small and friendly team and we are looking for a highly motivated person who would like to join our enthusiastic team. Working in a fast‑paced environment, you will be required to rotate through the recovery area and into our procedure room to maintain a full range of support skills.

The role requires an enthusiastic, hardworking, and flexible person, with excellent communication skills. This would enable you to be involved with and undertake a variety of tasks to assist with the smooth delivery of care to ensure the best outcome for our patients. The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate compassion and commitment to deliver high standards of care. The hours of work are Monday – Friday with variable hours.

Responsibilities

• Assisting nursing and medical staff in the procedure room
• Performing and documenting observations and blood sugars (after training) under supervision of nursing staff
• Suctioning patients during procedures
• Assisting nursing staff in the recovery area, caring for sedated patients post procedure
• Keeping the department stocked up as appropriate

Qualifications

• Previous experience working in an acute healthcare setting
• Care certificate completed
• Ability to be flexible and adapt to changing situations

Desirable criteria

• Experience of the NHS
• Phlebotomy skills
• Previous experience working in a procedural environment
