Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen on Ward 8 North Tyneside General Hospital, for two Band 3 nursing assistants to join the team. We are a 12 bedded elective orthopaedic unit that specialises in joint replacements. We are looking for candidates that are motivated and committed to ensure safe and high quality care. You will be expected to work as part of a dynamic nursing team, delivering all aspects of care to patients and have excellent communication skills. Previous experience in a similar setting is desirable, but not essential. These posts will be rotational between day/night shift.

Main duties

The main purpose of the role is to plan, implement and evaluate nursing care working as a member of the multidisciplinary team under the supervision of the nurses and the ward manager.

To assist the qualified nursing staff in the delivery of high quality direct and indirect patient care. To provide assistance and support to patients, carers and the multidisciplinary team. To maintain high clinical standards. To help maintain a clean and safe ward environment.

Job responsibilities

To assist the qualified nurses in the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of nursing care. To give basic nursing care, e.g.; assistance with personal hygiene, eating and drinking, mobility needs, washing under direct or indirect supervision. Monitor patients observations and vital signs including fluid balance. To report accurately perceived changes in a patient’s manner, observation, eating habits, etc. To promote health within the ward setting. Organises own day to day work tasks or activities under supervision of qualified staff. Able to respond to the changing needs of patients and ward routines.

Qualifications and knowledge - Essential

  • Level 3 qualification in a healthcare related subject or a portfolio of equivalent demonstrable experience
  • Knowledge of care and related procedures, clinical observations, relevant legislation
