Overview
Ward 7 North Tyneside General Hospital is looking for a hard-working and enthusiastic Band 3 Nursing Assistant to work as part of our nursing team. We care for both elective and emergency surgery patients within different specialties such as colorectal, upper GI, breast/plastics and bariatric surgery as well as caring for step-down patients from the emergency hospital.
Responsibilities
- Assist qualified nursing staff in delivering high-quality nursing care and provide assistance and support to patients, carers and the multidisciplinary team.
- Be responsible for personal nursing care standards and help maintain a clean, safe and hygienic ward environment.
- Perform venepuncture (and train to cannulate if desired) and change simple dressings with basic wound care.
- Accurately record patient observations, ECGs, bladder scans, neuro observations, blood sugar levels and Twocs.
- Complete ward audits and cleaning schedules; promote health within the ward and prepare clinical areas for procedures (aseptic technique).
- Demonstrate safe manual handling and assist in ensuring a clean, safe and pleasant ward environment.
- Order and restock supplies and adhere to trust policies; utilise trust resources effectively.
- Contribute to the induction of healthcare assistants and share knowledge with new staff and students.
- Support staff development through appraisal objectives and participate in staff surveys.
- Take personal responsibility for achieving agreed objectives through the appraisal process.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Band 3 Nursing Assistant or equivalent with willingness to perform ward-based duties and patient care responsibilities.
- Ability to perform venepuncture and to learn cannulation if desired; experience with: venipuncture, wound care and basic clinical observations is preferred.
- Ability to undertake basic clinical measurements and observations and to work as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Demonstrated commitment to patient safety, infection control and safe manual handling.
- Willingness to participate in induction, training and professional development.
