Job summary

Abacus Ark Nursery is seeking a Nursery Senior Assistant (Level 2) to join our Clapham Junction team. This full-time role across four days supports early years learning, daily routines and safeguarding in a warm, engaging setting.

With a 4-day week, 32 days annual leave, a health cashback plan, and strong commitment to training and progression, you’ll be supported to grow and help children thrive every day.

Qualifications

• Nursery experience preferred and a caring, patient approach.
• Understanding of safeguarding and health & safety requirements.
• Ability to obtain an enhanced DBS check and provide two references.

Responsibilities

• Support daily routines and activities with Key Teachers and Senior Key Teachers.
• Engage with children through meaningful play and learning experiences.
• Help maintain a stimulating, safe environment for children.
• Assist with observations, assessments, and record-keeping for key children.
• Provide feedback to parents and support training of new team members.

About The Role

As a Nursery Assistant, you’ll help create a safe, fun, and engaging environment where children can learn, play, and thrive. You’ll support daily routines, encourage children’s development, and work closely with colleagues and parents to ensure every child has a positive nursery experience.

Key Responsibilities

• Support Key Teachers and Senior Key Teachers in delivering daily routines, activities, and care.
• Engage with children in meaningful play and learning experiences.
• Help set up and maintain stimulating and safe environments.
• Assist Key Teachers with observations, assessments, and record‑keeping for key children.
• Provide daily feedback to parents when required.
• Act as a role model for Assistants and apprentices, supporting them to learn best practice.
• Help with training new team members in routines, safeguarding, and compliance expectations.
• Follow all safeguarding, health & safety, and compliance policies.
• Support with daily risk assessments, accident forms, and attendance checks.
• Provide friendly, professional communication with parents at drop‑off and pick‑up.
• Support Key Teachers in giving updates on children’s routines and wellbeing.
