Job description

We are looking for a member of staff to join our busy nursery. We are based on the army barracks at Thorney Island, in a quiet location. The role would be to work with children from age 9 months to 4 years, along with primary school age children before and after school.

We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic and motivated member of staff, who holds a full and relevant childcare qualification. The successful candidate needs to be able to work on their own initiative as well as work as part of a team, showing flexibility while working with all age groups. They must be reliable and trustworthy and have a real passion for working with children, providing them with activities to meet their individual needs.

Working hours will be on a shift basis to cover our opening hours. We are open from 7.30-5.30 Monday to Thursday and 7.30-3 on Friday (term time only). All staff are expected to work both the early and lates during the working week.

Experience and qualifications will reflect in the salary offered.

The successful candidate must have their own transport, as public transport does not come onto Thorney Island.

Job Description
  • To create effective planning that will challenge and stimulate the children using their interests and next steps.
  • To deliver planning and activities with enthusiasm and knowledge to ensure best outcomes. To provide your primary attention to the activity and the children taking part whilst being mindful of other children within the room.
  • To take on key worker responsibilities and duties to maintain high quality learning journals using the Tapestry system.
  • To support the children during free flow activities and opportunities safely.
  • To ensure children are prepared and equipped to tackle all activities; aprons/wet weather suits
  • To create stimulating and challenging activities inside and outside that support all areas of the EYFS.
  • To have knowledge of the EYFS framework and attend training when required.
  • To follow safeguarding procedures, policies and welfare requirements.
  • To attend courses needed for professional development and to benefit the Nursery.
  • To assist in devising children’s individual activities, evaluating and reviewing.
  • To support children to access activities on offer.
  • To complete additional assessment tools to best support children who are not meeting their learning goals e.g. speech trackers.
  • To develop positive relationships with children and staff to assist general well-being and calm & pleasant atmosphere within the Nursery.
  • To evaluate activities on a regular basis and input into plans at staff meetings.
  • To hold regular parent meetings to ensure the best outcomes for children.
