Job description

Blossoms on the Common is currently recruiting an Early years practitioner for our Curiosity approach nursery.

( You must hold a level 2 or 3 in Early Years not health and social )

The Nursery offers high quality full day care for children aged 0 to 5 years.

Open 7.00am-6.00pm 51 weeks of the year.

The nursery will be heavily supported by the curiosity approach to learning, with an emphasis on the natural world and what we can learn from the world around us.

The role will be room based, with specific roles delegated according to skills and abilities for example, SENCO or Safeguarding lead. The job is for 40 hours a week, across 5 days, with the occasional overtime.

You must be:
  • Confident and a self-starter with the ability to successfully lead a team in achieving the best outcome for children.
  • Demonstrate a thorough understanding of Ofsted requirements, having achieved good/outstanding Ofsted results.
  • You will have excellent interpersonal skills and an ability to lead and inspire your team, providing support and guidance where needed.
  • You will have outstanding customer service skills with a focus on setting your nursery apart from other local settings by providing exceptional services in all aspects of the business.
  • You will be committed to continuous improvement in all aspects of the nursery and able to implement change when required.
  • Experience/knowledge around the Curiosity approach.
Responsibilities will include:
  • To achieve and maintain high standards of care and education and overseeing the planning and implementation of the EYFS curriculum across all age groups.
  • To effectively lead and manage the staff including recruitment and retention, providing day to day guidance, training and support to all staff.
  • Ensuring child/staff ratios are adhered to at all times and that all daily checklists are completed on time and accurately, such as opening and closing the nursery, outdoor risk assessments, and all internal domestic areas checklists.
  • To keep abreast of current early childhood thinking/trends specifically related to the relevant curriculum. To assist in compiling policies and ensure all policies and procedures are implemented and adhered to at all time.
  • To implement an effective parent liaison program and to be influential in developing strong partnerships with parents, guardians and carers.
  • Experience in dealing with staff issues as they arise such as grievances, investigations, disciplinary matters, absence management and flexible working requests.
  • To hold an additional role of SENCO or Safeguarding lead within the setting.
Essential:
  • CACHE level 3, NVQ level 3, EYFS or equivalent
  • A minimum of 2-3 years post-qualifying experience in a full day care setting.
  • Experience as a room leader
  • Excellent organisational skills with the ability to work to deadlines and under pressure.
  • Knowledge and experience of Ofsted standards, child development and EYFS.
  • Excellent communication and IT skills.
  • Strong people management skills.
  • Pediatric first aid
Desirable:
  • safeguarding lead or SENCO qualifications.
  • familiar with online learning journal systems, specifically Family
