Job summary

The Sheffield College is seeking a Nursery Apprentice to join our nurseries. You will work as part of the nursery team, gaining skills and knowledge to provide high standards of care in line with EYFS and Every Child matters frameworks.

You will undertake training, support activity planning, and assist with safeguarding responsibilities while developing essential early years experience within a supportive college environment.

Qualifications

  • Training and development to work as part of nursery team.
  • Paediatric First Aid qualification (or willingness to undertake)
  • Experience with safeguarding and early years frameworks (EYFS) would be beneficial

Responsibilities

  • Respond to individual needs of children in the Nursery.
  • Supervise children during arrival and departure.
  • Prepare and clear the Nursery area and maintain materials stocks.
  • Contribute to activity planning and development of the nursery program.
  • Maintain records as required by Ofsted and the nursery’s procedures.

About The Role

The Sheffield College is a large, vibrant and diverse further education college and we are proud of how the college contributes to transforming lives through learning by meeting local skills needs. As a Nursery Apprentice you will undertake training/ experimental development to gain the skills and knowledge to work as a member of the nursery team to ensure that high standards of care are provided. You will promote and create an educationally stimulating environment in accordance with Every Child matters and the Early Years Foundation Stage Framework and all development areas: Physical, Cognitive, Emotional and Social.

Main Responsibilities
  • Respond to individual needs of the children accepted into the Nursery
  • Supervise the children arriving/leaving the Nursery
  • Prepare and clear up the Nursery area
  • Ensure through the Area Nursery Manager/Nursery Coordinator, that adequate stocks of materials exist
  • Undertake the Paediatric First Aid qualification and once qualified undertake duties within the Nursery approved code of practice
  • Contribute the planning and development of activities
  • Gain experience of undertaking and maintaining records as required by Ofsted Registration legislation
  • Collect and record the taking of refreshment monies
  • Maintain in good order all toys and equipment
  • Develop excellent communications and relationships with children, parents and staff

From time-to-time these responsibilities may be reviewed so that they evolve as part of the college’s strategic growth and success. You may also be required to take on other tasks related to the job to support the College in the delivery of its strategic aims, without changing the role's main purpose.

Cross College Responsibilities

You may be required to participate in cross-college teams and working groups on key projects. You may need to attend relevant internal committees and groups. You will act as a role model to colleagues, ensuring that the responsibilities of the post are carried out in line with the College’s FREDIE+ values and behaviours.

Student Related Responsibilities
  • Anyone who has regular contact with children and young people in their day-to-day responsibilities must ensure they are safe. You will work with the Safeguarding Team, ensuring concerns regarding students/apprentices are shared in a timely, accurate manner
  • You will be involved in supporting college open days, during the exam season student enrolment, and any other required events.
Other Responsibilities

All staff are responsible for ensuring the college provides a safe and sustainable environment for students, staff and visitors. You will support this by :

  • Understanding and undertaking the specific responsibilities for their role as documented within the Health and Safety Policies and procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with Data Protection Regulations.

Ensure that environmental sustainability is a key consideration in the actions we take, working towards the college’s environmental strategy and net zero ambition.

As the successful candidate, you will be offered a salary of £26,748 per annum based upon a combination of the skills, knowledge and experience that you can bring to the role.
