Job description

To provide specialist nursing advice to support and facilitate high quality, individualised care to patients/clients and relatives/carers without supervision in collaboration with the multi-disciplinary team in line with local and national targets.

To be flexible in the approach to the clinical area and to provide cover for any area specified acting as professional role model providing direct and indirect clinical care, teaching and research.

To provide a nurse led service offering advice and expertise within the Upper GI Cancer speciality.

Main duties of the job
  • To assess, plan, implement and evaluate programmes of care, providing specialist advice and actively seeking evidence based practice which will improve the quality of care and meet the needs of a group of patients.
  • A holistic approach to caring should be planned that will include the appropriate level of physiological; pathological; spiritual, socio-economical and cultural aspects which influence the care of clients within your specific specialty. To manage episodes of care as own/joint/shared caseload and discharging patients as per protocol.
  • To spend time in clinical practice acting as a role model to ensure the delivery of nursing care is at highest possible level to meet patient care.
  • To act as a key worker for patients in the case load, providing seamless, coordinated treatment pathway ensuring that scans, outpatient appointments etc are arranged such as to avoid treatment interruptions keeping the patient informed at all times.
  • To work with the Upper GI Cancer team taking an active role in involving users and carers in developing the service.
