Job summary

The Royal Shrewsbury Hospital's Dermatology Skin Cancer Team seeks an experienced Skin Cancer Clinical Nurse Specialist (Band 7) for 12 months maternity cover. Based in the outpatient department, you will join a small but busy team managing new suspected cases and follow-up patients.

Key duties include MDT participation, delivering difficult news, acting as key worker, and providing expert advice to staff and patients.

Qualifications

• Experience in Skin Cancer Management.
• Advanced communication qualification required.
• Experience coordinating with multidisciplinary teams.
• Ability to manage new and follow-up patients with skin cancer.

• Develop, implement and evaluate a seamless specialist dermatology service with the MDT.

An exciting opportunity to work within Dermatology as a member of the Skin Cancer Team.

We are a small team with a large workload, based in the outpatient department at The Royal Shrewsbury Hospital. We are looking for a very experienced Skin Cancer Clinical Nurse Specialist to work as a Band 7 for 12 months to cover maternity leave.

The successful applicant will have experience in the following elements of Skin Cancer Management:

• Attendance and participation in weekly MDT.
• Delivery of bad news/diagnosis, act as Key Worker to patients with a skin cancer diagnosis and have an advanced communication qualification.
• Managing a cohort of new suspected skin cancer patients, history taking, physical assessment, dermoscopy and obtaining consent.
• Managing a cohort of follow-up patient, who have been diagnosed with skin cancer and require on-going monitoring.

Main duties of the job

• In partnership with members of the multidisciplinary team the post holder will develop, implement and evaluate seamless specialist service.
• They will ensure patients receive the highest standard of clinical care.
• As a nursing expert the post holder will demonstrate a high level of expertise within the specialist’s service, providing advice, education and support to staff, patients their families and carers.
• The post holder is accountable for their safe, effective clinical practice and working as part of a defined team and supporting team performance, ensuring efficient and effective use of physical and humanresources.
