Job summary

Washington University in St. Louis is seeking a Nurse Practitioner to join the Nephrology Transplant team. The APP will evaluate kidney and pancreas transplant patients, manage immunosuppression, and provide post-transplant care in a setting with 3 inpatient and 1 outpatient APPs.

In outpatient, expect 6–7 clinics per week with 3 half days off; 7–8 post-transplant and 5 pre-transplant patients per clinic. APPs can earn performance bonuses after one year.

Qualifications

  • APN licensure or ability to obtain licensure within three months of date of hire.
  • Certain/additional certifications may be necessary based on area of specialty.
  • Basic Life Support certification (BLS) is required for this role.

Responsibilities

  • Provides direct patient care including history, assessment, and treatment planning in collaboration with physicians and others.
  • Manages health conditions with prescriptive authority or referrals as allowed by state regulations.
  • May bill for services under the collaborative practice agreement.
  • Educates patients and families about prevention, options, and resources.

Position Summary

Don't miss this opportunity to join WashU's Nephrology Transplant team! Our team consists of 3 APPs in the outpatient setting and 1 APP in the inpatient setting. In outpatient, the APP sees their patients independently. For inpatient, the APP collaborates with Nephrology and Transplant Fellows. They will evaluate patients for kidney and pancreas transplant as well as manage immunosuppressant medication and post-transplant care.

The APP will have 3 months of inpatient service and 9 months outpatient. When outpatient, the APP will do 6 to 7 clinics per week with 3 half days of no clinical duties. The APP is expected to see 7 to 8 patients in the post-transplant clinic and 5 patients in pre-transplant clinic. No nights or weekends!

APPs are eligible for performance bonuses after one year of employment.

Provides primary and/or specialty nursing and/or medical care in a variety of settings; works under physician oversight as required by state regulation and functions within the scope of practice defined by the APP's specialty certification, Barnes-Jewish Hospital medical by-laws, and, where it exists, the collaborative practice agreement.

Job Description

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Provides direct patient care to include obtaining patient history, performing patient assessment via observation, interview and examination; orders, performs and interprets diagnostic studies; performs preventative health assessments, screenings, immunizations and care; provides direct treatment and management of acute and chronic disease conditions; develops and implements patient-centered plan of care in collaboration with physicians, patients, consultants, nurses, ancillary care providers and others as appropriate to the patient’s condition.

  • Manages health conditions via prescriptive authority or referral to other healthcare providers or community resources; may perform diagnostic or therapeutic interventions consistent with certification and state regulations.

  • May bill for services covered by collaborative practice agreement.

  • Provides counseling and education of patients and their families/caregivers concerning preventative health, treatment options and community resources.

  • Monitors/ensures accuracy of patient medical records; maintains all required reports, records, statistics, etc.

  • Maintains a safe, comfortable and therapeutic environment for patients/families in accordance with established clinic/hospital standards.

  • Provides management services for clinical research study projects; monitors participating subjects, including medication administration and family/patient education.

  • Works in accordance with established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance programs, and safety, environmental and infection control standards.

  • Regularly participates in constant quality improvement and process improvement activities centered on the goal of providing exceptional, evidence-based patient care.

  • Enhances professional growth and development through educational programs, current literature, in-service meetings and workshops.

Salary Range

$97,000.00 - $174,600.00 / Annually
