Are you a Registered Adult Nurse or Midwife who is passionate about reproductive healthcare?

We are looking for a Nurse or Midwife Practitioner to join the clinical team within our 2 units in Newcastle and South Shields. You will work part-time, 21 hours per week over Monday, Wednesday and Friday. More details can be found in the further information section below.

About the role

As a Nurse or Midwife Practitioner you will provide high quality clinical care to our clients across a range of BPAS reproductive healthcare services including termination of pregnancy, STI testing & treatment, contraception & vasectomy. You’ll be involved in all stages of the client pathway from consultation through to treatment & will work in all areas of the unit including theatre & recovery. This role will involve providing treatment & clinical information to clients both in person & over the phone.

About you

You will be a Registered Adult Nurse Level 1 or Midwife (practising) with active NMC registration and PIN. You’ll have clinical practice experience of at least 12 months & have a keen interest in sexual health & reproductive healthcare. Clinical knowledge & experience of safeguarding and Fraser/Gillick competencies are essential for this role.

You will have excellent interpersonal, communication and listening skills and you will be adept at caring for clients in a compassionate & empathetic way.

Main duties of the job
  • You will work in accordance with NMC guidelines for Professional Practice & the wider regulatory frameworks of the Abortion Act 1967 & Health & Social Care Act as well as BPAS clinical policies and procedures.
  • Ensure that the client understands her options in relation to the pregnancy, and if choosing termination, meets the ground of the Abortion Act.
  • Provide information on STI Testing, undertake tests and provide results and also discuss, inform and confirm the clients future choice of contraception.
  • Carefully check for and implement any procedure indicated on client case notes, including administering medication for Medical Abortion procedures or cervical preparation.
  • Carry out posttreatment check-ups by assessing the physical condition of the client and discussing any concerns.
  • Complete relevant paperwork and in the event of post treatment problems, make arrangements with the clinic or refer to an NHS agency if necessary.
  • To care for and support clients undergoing surgical treatments. This could include general anaesthetic, conscious sedation or local anaesthetic.
Additional skills
  • Sound & accurate administrative competence with attention to detail.
  • Gynaecological nursing experience or relevant specialty i.e., sexual health, contraception.
  • Venepuncture / cannulation skills.
  • Comfortable using IT and Microsoft Packages including Outlook, Word and Microsoft Teams.

£38,984 - £45,518 per annum - depending on skills and experience (Pro rata for part time hours)

Qualifications
  • Registered Adult Nurse level 1 / Registered Midwife (practising)
  • Active NMC registration and valid PIN
  • Ultrasound scanning skills
Experience
  • Minimum 12 months clinical practice experience
  • Experience of general nursing or midwifery
  • Experience completing client documentation and working within guidelines, policies and procedures
  • Knowledge of Health & Safety and COSHH requirements and infection control
  • Gynaecological nursing experience or relevant speciality i.e. sexual health, contraception
