Job summary

The Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a Nursing Associate to provide compassionate, safe and patient-centred care within a busy clinical ward. You will work under supervision, monitor patient conditions, support families, and maintain accurate records.

You will adhere to the NMC Code, participate in mandatory training, and administer medications according to local policy.

Responsibilities

• Work at all times in accordance with the NMC Code and professional standards.
• Be accountable for own actions and those delegated to others.
• Provide compassionate, safe and effective care to people within the practice setting.
• Monitor the condition and health needs of people under care in partnership with patients, families and carers.
• Contribute to ongoing assessment and refer to others for reassessment when needed.
• Promote shared decision making with people to support self-management of care.
• Demonstrate nursing procedures and device management to meet safety and patient needs.
• Know when to elevate to the appropriate professional for expert help.
• Recognise changes in a patient’s condition by health monitoring and escalate findings as needed.
• Maintain mandatory training and clinical competencies (venepuncture, cannulation, ECG, catheter care, etc).
• Administer medications according to local policy and medicines management standards.
• Administer medications by various routes as required.
• After local training, perform a second safety check for Controlled Drugs and IV infusions.
• Respond to patient, relative and carer concerns and take remedial action as required.
• Undertake delegated tasks and support ward activities, including audits and governance initiatives.
• Contribute to service development and quality improvement to enhance patient experience and outcomes.
• Delegate appropriately to unregistered staff and students.
• Communicate condition-related information to patients and designated carers.
• Assist with induction and development of junior staff on the ward or department.
• Maintain accurate nursing records and timely documentation.
• Adhere to organisational policies and procedures.
• Daily observe and record patients’ observations using appropriate software and monitoring equipment.
• Complete the Preceptorship program as required.
