We are recruiting RGN, RMN and RNLD Nurses in Guildford to complete functional health assessments for Personal Independence Payment (PIP) and Work Capability Assessment (WCA) services.
This Nurse Assessor role is also known as a Functional Assessor, Disability Assessor or Clinical Assessor. You will review medical evidence, complete structured assessments and produce clear, evidence-based reports for the Department for Work and Pensions. This is not a hands-on nursing role.
For PIP assessments, you will explore how a health condition or disability affects daily living and mobility. For WCA assessments, you will consider how health affects functional capability for work or work-related activity.
Assessments may take place by telephone, online video appointment or face-to-face at the local assessment centre. You will review medical evidence, gather accurate information through structured questioning, apply your clinical knowledge and professional judgement, and produce clear, concise and evidence-based reports.
This is a report-writing role as much as an assessment role. A significant part of the working day involves gathering detailed information, using IT systems and producing structured written reports.
You will not provide hands-on care, prescribe or deliver treatment, make medical diagnoses, provide medical advice or make the final decision on benefit entitlement.
This is a permanent hybrid role based between home and the Guildford assessment centre at GU1 4QD.
The normal working pattern is Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm, with no nights, weekends or rotating shifts. The vacancy is not fully remote.
You will complete a comprehensive, full-time training programme before undertaking assessments independently.
Part-time applicants must be available for the initial full-time training period before moving to their agreed part-time hours.
The salary is £40,000-£42,000, depending on the assessment service.
