Introduction

Commonwealth Games Australia (CGA) leads Australia’s preparation and participation at the Commonwealth Games. Description
Key Responsibilities
  • Assist CGA medical staff in providing medical care to Australian Team Members – athletes and officials.
  • Contribute to medication and equipment planning for Games time.
  • Assist with the planning of and education regarding infection control protocols and risk mitigation strategies to reduce the burden of illness on games participation and performance.
  • Triage illness and acute injuries presenting to Australian HQ medical centre.
  • Manage wound reviews and dressings.
  • Perform point of care (biofire) testing, venepuncture and ECGs as required.
  • Assist with results management and notifications including public health reporting.
  • Assist CGA medical team with treatment plans for Team Members including clinical management follow up and isolation room planning.
  • Develop and maintain positive working relationships with Athletes, Officials, Team Managers, coaches, high performance staff, other service providers, Sport medical staff, HQ staff etc.
  • Support and promote integrity in sport as it relates to anti-doping, safeguarding irregular betting and match‑fixing and classification manipulation (para-sport).
  • During preparation and in Games time adapt a mindset of proactive, collaborative and solution‑focused problem solving.
  • Pre‑emptive communication to CGA on any potential risks during planning or in Games time.
  • Contribute to the overall Team culture commitment to ensuring all Team Members have a positive experience and be an active role model for G2026 Team Behaviours.
  • Any other duties as required by the Chef de Mission, Team Executive, Performance Support Services Lead, CMO or CGA CEO during the Games.
Skills And Experiences
Specific Qualifications
  • An AHPRA registered nurse.
  • Having professional indemnity insurance.
  • Working in the High‑Performance Sport Sector and/or worked in a similar role at either a Commonwealth Games, World Championships, Olympics, Paralympics or other major sporting event.
  • Have experience with paralympic athletes preferably with Program Sports.
  • Experience with AMS.
  • Experience with point of case testing (biofire).
  • Able to travel to the UK and obtain a necessary Visa.
  • Working with Children Check (or equivalent).
Person Specification
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively with a variety of different teams and people to achieve a successful outcome.
  • If applicable capacity to reassign any other professional commitments for the duration of the Games Time and any associated pre‑Games duties during the Planning Phase.
  • Be in good health.
