Job description
Overview

The National Bowel Cancer Screening Programme is a well established service that reduces bowel cancer mortality by 16%. Bedfordshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is looking for an enthusiastic and dynamic nurse to support the programme across Luton, Bedford, and Dunstable.

Responsibilities
  • Assess participants’ suitability for colonoscopy and communicate test results.
  • Deliver nurse‑led and virtual clinics within the community of Luton and Bedfordshire.
  • Manage an own caseload, making decisions based on assessment outcomes.
  • Attend colorectal cancer multidisciplinary team (MDT) meetings at participating Trusts.
  • Advocate for individuals, empowering families to make informed screening choices.
  • Support health promotion teams to improve uptake and inclusivity.
Qualifications
  • Registered nurse with the ability to work autonomously and within a team.
  • Strong organisational, communication and flexible working skills – screening lists may run 7 days a week.
  • Must complete a Specialist Screening Practitioner certificate within 12 months of employment at Liverpool John Moore’s University.
  • Experience with virtual course training for the Bowel Cancer Screening database.
