Overview

In this dynamic environment, the NRSWA and Permitting Compliance Officer serves as a key on-site inspector, helping to minimise disruption to road users, residents, and businesses. This is a site-based role where you will be actively present at works locations, ensuring that activities are carried out safely and to a high standard, both during execution and upon completion. Your duties will include:

Responsibilities
  • Monitoring and inspecting works on-site.
  • Attending site meetings and liaising with Highway Work promoters.
  • Issuing defects, fixed penalty notices, and overruns.
  • Supporting records management and providing technical support.
  • Ensuring compliance with the Council's statutory Traffic Management duties.

Solihull is experiencing sustained economic development, with major infrastructure projects underway. Initiatives such as Project Gigabit are enhancing broadband connectivity across the borough, while utility companies are actively upgrading and replacing outdated assets. As a result, the volume of utility works is increasing significantly.

Qualifications
  • Do you have experience as a Street Works Inspector or similar role, whether with a local authority or a utility company/contractor?
  • A Level 3 qualification in Traffic or Highways Management, or equivalent experience.
  • Proven knowledge of traffic management and work coordination systems.
  • Strong IT skills and proficiency in using various systems and applications.
  • A proactive approach with excellent negotiation, influencing, and diplomacy skills.
