Job description

Our JAG accredited Endoscopy service based at Royal Lancaster Infirmary is looking to recruit band 2 Non Clinical Support Worker in the Endoscopy Unit to support the smooth running of the service.

You will be working closely with HSDU, communicating effectively, ensuring there is a sufficient supply of scopes for the lists to run smoothly, escalating any issues to the senior Nurse in charge.

You will also be supporting the Nurses to alleviate any nonclinical workload.

Responsibilities
  • Working closely with the HSDU and communicating effectively.
  • Ensuring there is a sufficient supply of scopes for the lists.
  • Escalating any issues to the senior Nurse in charge.
  • Supporting the Nurses to reduce nonclinical workload.
  • The role is a physical role with regular transfers of patients in wheelchairs, hospital trolleys, scope trolleys and beds; therefore a level of fitness is required.
  • Transferring patients to wards, CT department, x‑ray department and any other area to increase and maximise patient flow.
  • Providing housekeeping duties to support Clinical Staff.
  • Ensuring that Endoscopy is safe, clean, tidy and a comfortable environment.
  • Ensuring food is available to meet the patients’ needs.
  • Assisting the ward staff to receive, welcome and guide patients and visitors around the Endoscopy department.
  • Ensuring all patients are afforded privacy and dignity throughout their stay.
  • Ensuring that there is an adequate linen supply throughout the day.
  • Responding to health emergencies as appropriate.
  • Transferring and collecting scopes from HSDU, ensuring there is adequate scope supply for that day, and escalating where appropriate if not in a timely manner.
  • Sending any scopes off for repair, ensuring correct documentation is completed.

We operate from three main hospitals—Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal—as well as a number of community healthcare premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre.

FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant‑led services. WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre.

All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, day case and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.
