Job summary

The Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is seeking an experienced Nurse Consultant for the Breast Cancer Oncology team.

The postholder will deliver high-level clinical expertise, leadership, and patient-centred care while driving education, research and quality improvement across the service.

Qualifications

  • Registered nurse, midwife or AHP with current NMC/HCPC registration.
  • Possession of a master's degree or evidence of academic achievement at that level.
  • Postgraduate specialist education related to area of clinical expertise.
  • Possession of or working towards a Doctorate.

Responsibilities

  • Act as a clinical expert and lead in the NMAHP Consultant function across the Breast Cancer oncology team.
  • Provide high level clinical advice, leadership, and drive education and professional development.
  • Support service delivery improvements to reduce waiting times and enhance patient experience.
  • Lead service development, evaluation, research and audit in the specialty.

NMAHP Consultant

We are seeking an exceptional and experienced nurse to become a Nurse Consultant within the Breast Cancer oncology team. The role will support the Breast Cancer Oncology Services, working as an increasingly independent practitioner responsible for patient treatment and holistic patient centred care.

As a Nurse Consultant you will provide high level of expert clinical advice and leadership, support and deliver education and professional development and assist in research and quality improvementprojects.

Working alongside clinical colleagues, the successful individual will reduce waiting times to see specialist oncology practitioners, provide resilience to the service and improve patient experience.

This is a very exciting opportunity for an individual with a passion for patient care in the Breast-oncology setting.

Main duties of the job

You will need to be passionate about providing high quality patient care in this exciting and rewarding area. You will join an innovative team of oncologists, ACPs, pharmacists and specialist nurses, delivering non-surgical oncology treatments in a tertiary centre.

You will need to have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team and be able to prioritise a complex workload. You will take pride in your work,be self-motivated, professional, proactive and personally resilient. In addition, have a flexible approach, good organisational skills, and excellent attention to detail. You will be passionate as a lifelong, self-directed learner in this rapidly developing and exciting specialty. You will have opportunities to lead service changes to improve performance and patient care.

Job responsibilities

The post holder will be a clinical expert in their respective field and will fulfil the 4 domains of the NMAHP Consultant function:

1. Advanced and expert level practice within the relevant field2. Leadership and consultancy3. Development and provision of education and training4. Service development, evaluation, research and audit.

Qualifications & Education
  • oRegistered Nurse, Midwife or AHP

  • oEvidence of post graduate specialist education related to area of clinical expertise
  • oPossession of or working towards a Doctorate

  • oExtensive experience of clinical work in specialist area
  • oAudit / research experience
  • oExtensive clinical and leadership experience in the specialist field
  • oExperience of contributing to the development of your profession at a regional / national level
  • oExperience / evidence of professional leadership in relation to their service at a regional and/or national level

  • oAbility to prioritise a complex workload and work in a rapidly changing environment
  • oActs autonomously and independently within appropriate organisational boundaries and achieve results and outcomes based on own decision making

  • oCurrent driving licence if relevant to role
  • o Moving and handling patients and objects in line with Trust guidelines using appropriate aids
