Job summary

Wiley in the United Kingdom is seeking a senior data scientist to own end-to-end domain-specific content modeling for scientific corpora, building production NLP pipelines that extract entities, classifications, claims, and summaries for downstream AI applications.

You'll work with editors, product managers, and engineers, own evaluations, and ship changes that impact real users in a fast-moving market, with opportunities to shape content strategies and tool choices.

Qualifications

• Strong NLP background across modern (LLMs, transformers, embeddings, retrieval) and classical approaches.
• Clean Python; comfortable in exploratory notebooks and production repos.
• Ability to defend model choices with evaluations, cost estimates, and performance monitoring.

Responsibilities

• Design and build NLP enrichment pipelines that extract entities, classifications, claims, and summaries from scientific full-text at scale.
• Compare NLP approaches to extraction and enrichment against LLM-based approaches, selecting the right tool for each task with eval, cost, and ops tradeoffs.
• Own evaluation; build golden sets with SMEs and vendors, choose metrics, balance speed/quality/cost.
• Contribute to agentic AI work: tool-using systems that reason over the enriched corpus.
• Work with editors, product managers, and engineers; translate stakeholder feedback into modeling work.
