Job summary

Randstad CPE is seeking a seasoned Night Maintenance Engineer to support a leading food manufacturing facility in Norfolk. You will operate on a permanent night shift, rapidly diagnosing faults and executing preventive maintenance to minimise downtime.

The role focuses on reliability, safety and continuous improvement across complex processing machinery. Ideal candidates will have an engineering apprenticeship with NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds in Electrical or Mechanical, and experience with CMMS

Qualifications

• Engineering Apprenticeship with NVQ Level 3 and City & Guilds (Electrical or Mechanical)
• Strong multi-skilled capability across electrical and mechanical systems
• Proficient in reading schematic diagrams and basic fault-finding on PLCs
• Experience with CMMS and in food manufacturing environments

Responsibilities

• Breakdown & Response: diagnose and resolve faults on production lines.
• Maintenance Execution: deliver routine PPM schedules and repairs.
• Technical Equipment Focus: work with conveyors, tray systems and automated process machinery.
• Electrical & Systems Support: read schematics and perform basic PLC fault-finding.
• Project Work: assist in small-scale engineering projects and process improvements.
• Health & Safety: follow LOTO, PTW, risk assessments and SOPs.

Night Maintenance Engineer

Salary: £58,000 per annum

Hours: 47.5 hours per week (Monday to Friday, 16:00 - 02:00)

Location: Norfolk

Position: Permanent, Night Shift

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Multi-Skilled Night Maintenance Engineer to join a leading food manufacturing facility in Norfolk. Operating on a permanent night shift, you will play a critical role in minimizing downtime by swiftly responding to production breakdowns and carrying out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) across complex processing and packaging machinery.

This is an excellent opportunity for a proactive, highly skilled engineer to take ownership of site reliability, carry out continuous improvement projects, and maintain high standards of safety and efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

• Breakdown & Response: Rapidly diagnose and resolve electrical and mechanical faults on fast-paced production and packaging lines.


• Maintenance Execution: Deliver routine PPM schedules, lubrication tasks, and corrective repairs to minimize downtime.


• Technical Equipment Focus: Work with specialized machinery including conveyors, tray/module transport systems, automated process machinery, tray sealers, flow wrappers, and vacuum sealers.


• Electrical & Systems Support: Read schematic drawings, perform electrical installations, and carry out basic fault-finding on PLC systems.


• Project Work: Assist in small-scale engineering projects, modifications, and process improvements across the site.


• Health & Safety Compliance: Strictly adhere to HSE protocols, including Lock-Out/Tag-Out (LOTO), Permits to Work, Risk Assessments, Method Statements, and Standard Operating Procedures.

Key Requirements

Essential:

• Qualifications: Recognized Engineering Apprenticeship with NVQ Level 3 and City & Guilds (Electrical or Mechanical).


• Skills: Strong multi-skilled capabilities with a thorough understanding of both electrical and mechanical systems.


• Technical Abilities: Proficient in reading schematic diagrams and possessing strong workshop skills (including MIG, TIG, or ARC welding).


• Mindset: Logical approach to fault-finding, excellent organizational skills, and a self-motivated, \"can-do\" attitude to work independently during night operations.


• ONC / HNC in Engineering or equivalent.


• 17th / 18th Edition IET Wiring Regulations.


• Competency in PLC diagnosis and troubleshooting.


• Experience utilizing Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS).


• Background in food manufacturing, FMCG, or automated processing environments.
