Job summary

Great Bear, part of the Culina Group, is seeking an experienced Yard Shunter for its Wigan depot. This yard-based role focuses on shunting trailers in a busy environment, with a fixed night shift 22:00–06:00 and a 40-hour week.

Starting pay is £14.47 per hour with a £1.00 night allowance (effective £15.47). Overtime is paid at £21.71 per hour. Applicants with prior yard shunting experience and a Class 1 licence preferred should apply.

Qualifications

• Experience in yard shunting and operating in a busy yard environment.
• Strong safety awareness and adherence to procedures.

Responsibilities

• Observe and follow company rules, site procedures and health & safety requirements.
• Move trailers safely on and off loading bays.
• Maintain safe yard movements and monitor activity.
• Operate a yard-based shunting vehicle.
• Ensure trailers are positioned correctly and loaded on time.
• Complete daily checks and reporting of defects or damage.
• Carry out trailer checks and report to operations staff.
• Complete trailer checklists and report to operations desk.
• Handing maintenance and safety checks as part of shunting duties.
• Liaise with warehouse and goods-in staff to ensure smooth loading/unloading.
• Manage vehicle downloads as required by policy.
• Coordinate with Transport Office regarding promotions and livery schedules.
