Night Shift Engineer - Critical Facilities (Data Centre)
We are seeking an experienced Night Shift Engineer to join our in-house engineering team within a mission-critical data centre. Working permanent night shifts, you will be responsible for monitoring, operating and maintaining critical infrastructure while ensuring maximum uptime and responding effectively to any out-of-hours incidents.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out planned preventative and reactive maintenance on critical electrical and mechanical systems during night operations.
- Monitor BMS/EMS systems, responding promptly to alarms and plant abnormalities.
- Perform fault finding, diagnostics and repairs on mission‑critical infrastructure.
- Operate and maintain generators, UPS systems, switchgear, chillers, chilled water systems, CRAC/CRAH units, pumps and associated HVAC equipment.
- Conduct routine plant inspections, operational checks and compliance tasks throughout each shift.
- Respond to emergency breakdowns and critical incidents, ensuring rapid restoration of services.
- Complete maintenance records, incident reports and comprehensive shift handovers using CMMS.
- Support permit‑to‑work procedures and ensure all activities are carried out safely and in accordance with site standards.
- Escort and supervise specialist contractors undertaking planned overnight works.
- Maintain high standards of housekeeping, safety and operational readiness across the facility.
About You
- Previous experience within a data centre, critical environment, facilities maintenance or similar mission‑critical industry.
- Strong electrical and/or mechanical maintenance background.
- Proven fault‑finding and problem‑solving skills in live operational environments.
- Knowledge of critical infrastructure including UPS systems, standby generators, HVAC, chilled water systems and BMS.
- Comfortable working independently while making informed engineering decisions during out‑of‑hours operations.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to produce detailed technical reports and shift handovers.
