Job Summary

Due to the recent recategorisation to a Category B Remand Prison, we have an exciting opportunity for a Night Nurse to join our Primary Care team at HMP Brixton. HMP Brixton is now a Category B male prison since April 2025 housing men on remand. Our patients’ needs will vary greatly but there will be a focus on mental health, substance misuse and early days in custody.

Hours

This is a bank role — 0 hour contract through Monday–Sunday night shifts run from 20:00 to 08:00.

Salary

£28.12 an hour.

Main duties of the job
  • Work within a multi-disciplinary team to deliver a nurse‑led service and prevent hospital admissions.
  • Undertake medication rounds, dispense controlled medication, attend emergency response situations, assess patients, and undertake reception screening.
  • Use your skills and knowledge to deliver nurse‑led clinics to your patient group while being supported by a multi‑disciplinary team.
  • Contribute to our nursing strategy and vision to provide outstanding evidence‑based care to our patients, seeking out, listening to and acting on their feedback, so that care is personalised and informed by what matters to them.
  • Deliver non‑judgemental care that makes a real difference, as defined throughout our bespoke Health in Justice competency framework.

  • Registered nurse Adult.
  • Current professional qualification (NMC).
  • Evidence of continued professional development.
  • Understanding of the complexities of multi‑disciplinary and multi‑agency working.
