Job summary

Isle of Wight NHS Trust is seeking a Healthcare Assistant to provide hands-on physical and emotional care to patients under the guidance of registered nurses or senior staff. You will support care delivery, assist with daily living activities, and help maintain a safe, compassionate environment.

Flexibility is valued in this bank-facing role; working patterns are varied to cover shifts across the NHS Trust.

Qualifications

• At least 6 months experience as a HCA within the NHS in the last 3 years.
• Good standard of literacy and numeracy.
• Clear verbal and written English skills to report patient changes and liaise with nurses and families.
• Ability to prioritise tasks in fast-paced clinical environments.
• Treat patients, residents and visitors with dignity, respect and courtesy.

Responsibilities

• Personal Care: Help patients with washing, bathing, dressing, grooming, oral hygiene, and using the toilet or commode.
• Nutrition and Hydration: Serve meals, help feed patients who need assistance, and monitor fluid intake.
• Mobility and Safety: Help patients move around safely, use mobility aids, or use equipment like hoists.
• Vital Signs and Observations: Monitor and record temperatures, pulse, respiration, weight, and blood pressure as instructed.
• Clinical Support: Assist with basic clinical tasks such as changing bed linens, restocking supplies, collecting lab samples, or preparing treatment rooms.
• Communication and Record Keeping: Update patient notes, report changes to nurses, and reassure families.
