A local healthcare organization is seeking a part-time hearing screener to conduct hearing screenings for newborns in Kingston upon Thames. Successful candidates will join supportive teams, adapt to changing service needs, and receive comprehensive training. Ideal for those with good communication skills and experience with young children, this role offers opportunities for personal and professional development.
An exciting part time vacancy has arisen within the Newborn Hearing Screening Service. We are looking for a hearing screener to work in postnatal wards and outpatient clinics carrying out the hearing screen for all eligible newborn babies in South West London and The Portland Hospital.
You will be working with dedicated, supportive, and caring teams who have a strong commitment to a flexible and cooperative working environment. Working as part of a team, you will be required to alter working patterns to accommodate changing needs of the service across 7 days a week, with regular working during weekends (Saturdays and Sundays), bank and public holidays.
We offer a full training package; you will be fully supported throughout your learning journey. Trained to use specialist equipment, gain informed verbal consent and all aspects of the role. Established screeners with over 10 years' experience will ensure you have the confidence and knowledge to provide an exceptional experience to our patients and deliver safe, quality, and efficient care.
Alongside self-directed study, protected time is incorporated into your working week to enable you to achieve the required standards and your very best. Approximately 5 hours per week commitment will be required.
You will be working closely with maternity colleagues, children's wards, doctors, and nurses in special care units. To ensure babies requiring further tests are seen quickly, you will also work closely with audiology teams agreeing appointments before families are discharged home.
We are looking for caring, motivated, conscientious individuals with a flexible, adaptable approach. Good communication and interpersonal skills are essential, preferably with experience of working with young babies and children and their families.
The post requires being able to work well as part of a team and on your own initiative. You must be methodical and well organised and it is essential for you to be able to prioritise your own workload to ensure that all babies are screened.
Your growth and personal happiness matter to us. From the moment you join us, we're committed to fostering your professional and personal development within a supportive, empowering environment. Whether you're just starting your career or looking to advance further, we provide you with the tools and opportunities you need to succeed.
We actively support colleagues to take part in research, quality improvement and innovation, whatever their role or level in the organisation.
To support your wellbeing, we offer an extensive range of resources, including an on-site staff nursery at Kingston Hospital, wellbeing practitioners, regular wellbeing classes, dedicated staff physiotherapist, comprehensive occupational health services, a 24/7 employee assistance programme, and a range of other support and activities.
We also take every opportunity to thank and recognise the work our teams do, through weekly 'shoutouts' and patient feedback, monthly and annual awards.
Wherever you work across our organisation, we look forward to welcoming you.
