Job summary

David Roberts and Partners in Manchester is seeking a New Business Underwriter (Commercial Combined/Property) to focus on high-quality new business underwriting and to build strong relationships with brokers. You will be proactive, confident in dealing with brokers, and able to deliver excellent customer service and attractive deals.

The role sits within a growing, independent broker group with access to Lloyd's and specialist markets, offering a collaborative, ambitious team and competitive

Summary of Position

In this New Business Commercial Underwriter role, you will focus on high-quality new business underwriting and building strong working relationships with Brokers. You will be proactive and confident when dealing with a panel of brokers, enabling you to maximise business through the delivery of exceptional customer service and attractive deals.

Key Responsibilities & accountabilities

• Underwrite and price new business profitability accurately
• Determine the desirability of accepting or rejecting business risks
• Identify the need, recommend and evaluate additional risk assessment information
• Maintain and develop business relationships with brokers by regular contact and to keep abreast of their issues
• Assist colleagues with technical and procedural aspects of underwriting

What we’re looking for

• Good understanding and knowledge of the insurance industry
• The successful candidate will likely have a proven track record in writing new business and being able to build strong business relationships
• Proven track record of working to and achieving individual targets
• Experience using SchemeServe would be beneficial but by no means essential
• Proficient in MS Office and with aptitude to use other MS Windows-based software
• Excellent interpersonal, communication and negotiation skills
• Ability to build strong working relationships and deliver exceptional customer service
