Job summary

The UK Sovereign Operations team in Google Public Sector delivers, operates and secures private cloud services for critical UK customers. This role focuses on building reliable, scalable networks and automating changes across private clouds in a Kubernetes environment.

You will design and operate private networks, monitor and troubleshoot issues, and participate in an on-call rotation to ensure service continuity. Office will be a satellite site in the South West with travel to London.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Networking, Information Security or related field or equivalent practical experience.
• At least 3 years of experience with IP networking, Internet Service Providers, Network Protocols, BGP, or Network Troubleshooting.
• Experience designing and implementing secure and resilient networks across multiple technologies.
• Currently hold UK Developed Vetting (DV) security clearance, or have active DV clearance.

Responsibilities

• Engage and improve the life-cycle of private/secure networks from inception and design, to qualification and validation, through deployment, operation.
• Assist engineering and operations teams in building an ecosystem of integration, software automation within private/secure networks.
• Work cross-functionally to design, develop, and validate product introductions of network and computing hardware, solutions, and technologies.
• Provide technical implementation and operational support in customer environments, including guidance on implementation feasibility of cross-product integrations.

Must be a British citizen to meet compliance and security clearance requirements. Office location will be a satellite site in the South West, with occasional travel to London. This is an on-site position, requiring a standard five day per week schedule in the office.Minimum qualifications:

Minimum qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Networking, Information Security or a related technical field or equivalent practical experience.
• 3 years of experience with IP Networking, Internet Service Providers, Network Protocols, Border Gateway Protocol, or Network Troubleshooting.
• Experience designing and implementing secure and resilient networks using multiple technologies.
• Previous or currently active UK Developed Vetting (DV) security clearance.

Preferred qualifications

• Experience with scalable cloud networking concepts (such as Load Balancers, Firewalls) and web standards (such as REST APIs, web security mechanisms).
• Experience managing or directing field operation technicians, engineers, and extended workforces in a telecommunications environment.
• Experience with software defined networking, scripting and automation, network architecture, or MPLS L3 VPN.
• Excellent partner management, follow-through, resourcefulness, attention to detail, and communication skills.

The UK Sovereign Operations team in Google Public Sector delivers, operates and secures private cloud services. We aim to provide the flexibility, reliability, and scalability of public cloud for customers with high security requirements that can only be met in a private cloud environment. We deliver and operate these private cloud deployments for the most critical customers, helping scale, secure and maintain the deployment and working closely with Google product teams to continually improve our technology.

As a Network Operations Engineer, you will be part of a team of engineers that deploys and operates our private cloud services and underlying networks for critical customers in the United Kingdom. You will design and operate reliable and resilient networks, automate changes, implement monitoring, and manage core network components. Your work will span both traditional networking as well as software-defined networking in a Kubernetes environment. You will work alongside peers in Infrastructure Engineering, and will learn to troubleshoot common infrastructure problems. You will keep the internal and cloud-hosted services up and running, and be responsible for the full life-cycle of networking infrastructure. You will participate in an on-call rotation to ensure incidents can be resolved.
