Job summary

LinuxCareers is seeking a Network Operations Engineer for our foundational satellite tracking network. You will monitor station health, track data delivery, triage faults, and coordinate with field engineers across time zones to ensure operational excellence.

You'll design dashboards and alerting, report performance metrics to internal and external customers, and help plan tracking schedules. Strong Linux, Python/Bash scripting, and experience with Grafana/Prometheus are essential.

Qualifications

• Experience managing ground stations or comparable infrastructure.
• Scripting in Python or Bash with hands-on Linux experience.
• Experience with monitoring and visualization tools like Grafana or Prometheus.
• Strong communication skills and ability to perform under pressure.

Foundational is building ground-based satellite laser ranging stations to provide precise orbital tracking data. This Network Operations Engineer role focuses on monitoring and maintaining the autonomous station network across multiple continents, ensuring reliable data delivery and operational excellence.

What You'll Do

• Monitor station health, tracking status, and data delivery across the distributed network
• Triage network faults and coordinate remediation with field engineers and host site partners
• Design and implement dashboards, alerting systems, and operational runbooks
• Track and report network performance metrics to internal teams and external customers
• Plan satellite tracking schedules aligned with customer commitments and service requirements
• Develop on-call rotation procedures and shift coverage strategies as the network expands across time zones

What You Need

• Operations experience managing ground stations, observatories, telecommunications networks, or comparable infrastructure
• Scripting proficiency in Python or Bash with hands-on Linux experience
• Practical experience with monitoring and visualization tools such as Grafana or Prometheus
• Strong communication skills and ability to perform effectively under pressure

Nice to Have

• Background in satellite operations or satellite laser ranging systems
• Networking knowledge and experience with secure remote access infrastructure
• Prior experience establishing or operating a network operations centre
