Job description

Purpose

To ensure the robust operation and evolution of 7IM’s network and IT infrastructure across both on-premises and cloud (Microsoft Azure) environments. The Network & Infrastructure Engineer is responsible for maintaining secure and reliable connectivity for the entire enterprise, covering data centres, office locations, and cloud services. The role provides expert third-line support for core infrastructure services, including network, server, and virtualisation platforms such as Windows Server, Hyper V, and VMware, supporting colleagues, clients, and partners. It also drives projects that improve resilience, security, and performance as 7IM continues its transformation towards a hybrid cloud model. This position works closely with the Cloud Engineering team to align on network, server, and connectivity requirements as services migrate to Azure.

Responsibilities
  • Network Infrastructure Management: Manage 7IM’s internal and external networks, including office/data centre LANs, WAN, Wi-Fi, and Azure cloud. Install, configure, and upgrade network hardware and cloud components to enhance communication infrastructure and maintain reliability.
  • Network Security & Threat Protection: Safeguard networks from malware, viruses, and unauthorised access across on-premises and cloud environments. Install and maintain firewalls, set company-wide access policies, and stay updated on cybersecurity risks to address vulnerabilities and threats.
  • Infrastructure Availability & Support: Keep IT infrastructure consistently available through efficient management of requests, prompt incident resolution with root cause analysis, and ongoing improvements. Provide third-line support for complex issues and elevate major outages to the Head of IT Infrastructure when needed.
  • Cloud Integration & Collaboration: Collaborate daily with Cloud Engineering to support 7IM’s Azure transformation. Align network architecture and help design and manage Azure networking components to ensure secure, seamless integration between on-premises and cloud networks, resolving connectivity-related issues as a team.
  • Team Collaboration & Continuous Improvement: Work with the Infrastructure team to carry out IT strategy aligned with business needs. Identify ways to optimise, automate, or improve processes to boost efficiency and support 7IM’s goals.
  • Project Implementation & Upgrades: Lead or play a key role in infrastructure projects – typically involving network or system migrations, upgrades, and deployment of new or improved services (including cloud adoption initiatives). Draft project proposals and implementation plans for such, then execute these plans to deliver enhancements on time and with minimal disruption to business operations.
  • Systems Monitoring & Standardisation: Monitor servers, networks, and infrastructure for issues and uptime across on-premises and Azure. Maintain consistent configurations in all environments to boost stability and support.
  • Disaster Recovery & Business Continuity: Support IT disaster recovery for network infrastructure. Run regular tests to ensure backup systems work and meet RTOs. Keep continuity plans current.
  • Documentation & Knowledge Sharing: Update and expand team documentation, including network setups and procedures. Record changes and best practices for both on-premise and Azure environments.
  • Professional Development: Pursue ongoing training in networking, cloud, and cybersecurity. Seek courses, certifications, and labs to keep skills sharp and benefit the team.
  • Compliance & Best Practices: Follow 7IM’s policies, industry regulations, and best practices in all infrastructure tasks. Adhere to IT security and change management procedures, complete required training, and ensure networks and systems meet regulated financial standards. Provide information and implement fixes for IT audits or risk assessments as needed.
About You
Knowledge
  • Networking & Cloud: Strong grasp of networking principles for on-premises and cloud setups, especially Microsoft Azure features like Virtual Networks, VPNs, firewalls, and hybrid architecture.
  • Infrastructure Systems: Broad IT infrastructure knowledge including Windows Server, Active Directory, Exchange, virtualisation, storage, and basic SQL Server administration.
  • IT Operations & Best Practices: Familiarity with ITIL practices such as change and incident management to maintain reliable IT services.
  • Cybersecurity & Resilience: Solid foundation in network security, threat defence, disaster recovery, and business continuity measures for resilient systems.
  • Business & Industry Awareness: Good understanding of how IT infrastructure and networks support business operations, ideally within a financial services or regulated industry context. Aware of the importance of compliance, data protection, and risk management in delivering technology services in line with business and regulatory requirements.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent professional experience).
  • Proven experience in an IT infrastructure and/or network engineering role, providing support and managing enterprise systems and networks. Hands-on experience with both on-premises infrastructure and cloud-based services is highly desirable, reflecting the hybrid nature of 7IM’s environment.
  • Professional certifications such as Cisco CCNA/CCNP or CompTIA Network+ are desirable, demonstrating solid networking expertise.
  • Microsoft infrastructure certifications, especially those focused on Azure (for example, Azure Administrator (AZ-104), Azure Solutions Architect, or similar), are a distinct advantage. Any relevant cloud or virtualisation certifications will be viewed favourably in light of 7IM’s cloud transformation.
Skills/Other relevant information
  • Must be a strong team player with a collaborative approach to work. Possesses excellent written and verbal communication skills and can articulate technical concepts in clear, non-technical language for the benefit of colleagues and stakeholders.
  • Conscientious, proactive, and accountable in carrying out duties, with a positive, “can-do” attitude. Demonstrates keen attention to detail and the ability to think laterally to solve problems creatively.
  • Excellent time management skills, with the ability to prioritise tasks effectively and handle multiple responsibilities under pressure. Willing to take ownership of issues and see them through to resolution and has a proven track record of delivering on commitments and projects reliably.
  • Embraces change and is willing to adapt to new technologies or processes as the IT landscape evolves. Continuously seeks to improve existing solutions and readily accepts new challenges as part of personal and professional growth (particularly important during the ongoing cloud transformation).
  • Reports to Head of IT Infrastructure.
