Summary

Meta is looking for an Optical Deployment Engineer (Subsea & Metro) who will be responsible for the deployment and support of one of the world’s largest and most complex networks. As a member of this team, you will have a unique opportunity to be involved in projects related to implementation & scaling of the optical network at Meta. As an Optical Deployment Engineer, you are not afraid to propose new ideas, gather constructive feedback from others, and push forward to make these ideas a reality.

Required Skills

1. Deploy, configure, and support a large-scale production optical network that spans ULH terrestrial, regional metros and subsea networks, interconnecting data centers and Point of Presence (POP) sites across EMEA.
2. Create and maintain Engineering Design Packages for Subsea, metro, regional and long-haul DWDM rings/systems
3. Generate implementation plans and provide technical leadership and guidance during deployment activities
4. Collaborate with vendors/manufacturers to evaluate new hardware/software and create optical standards for network deployment teams
5. Review Acceptance Documents provided by vendors and subcontractors deploying equipment on our network
6. Provide technical expertise to network provisioning engineers for troubleshooting out-of-service or faulty circuits
7. Plan, schedule and perform network maintenance, repair and upgrade tasks as needed
8. Work closely with Network Engineering, Logistics and equipment vendors & fibre providers to ensure seamless introduction of new optical technologies into the production network
9. Proactively contribute to documentation, automation and processes as they evolve
10. This role will involve some pre-planned travel from time to time

Minimum Qualifications

1. Demonstrated hands-on experience deploying optical networks
2. Experience with optical network design, installation and maintenance for service providers or enterprise networks
3. Knowledge of optical theory, transport technologies and the operation of optical transport systems
4. Experience with field-based work on Subsea Deployments, POPs, carrier hotels, data centers and central office environments
5. Experience with optical test equipment and optical troubleshooting experience using C-OTDR, OTDR, OSA, BERT and optical power meters
6. Technical knowledge of various regional Subsea Technologies including modulation, subsea amplification, power feeding equipment etc
7. Experience creating rack elevations and other planned/install/as-built documentation
8. Knowledge of Cable Landing Station & Data Center design and operational best practices

Preferred Qualifications

1. Experience of communicating and coordinating tasks with carriers remotely
2. Experience analyzing situations, utilize systems, tools and troubleshooting to resolve technical issues
3. Effective time management and organization
4. Experience working in a global team environment
