Job description

Location: Corsham, GB, SN13 9NP

Role: Network Engineer – Full time / Permanent – at Babcock (Hawthorn site, near Corsham, Wiltshire).

The Role

As a Network Engineer, you’ll be a key member of our Network Operations team, supporting the contract to manage and operate Skynet, the UK Ministry of Defence’s military satellite communications system and its associated ground stations. On a day‑to‑day basis, you’ll set up, maintain and troubleshoot the network infrastructure that underpins the Skynet Satellite System, ensuring secure and reliable communications for defence operations.

  • Produce detailed reports to validate network status and communicate findings to customers.
  • Collaborate with other Babcock teams on testing and repair activities to maintain system integrity.
  • Respond to customer queries and provide support with satellite acquisition processes.
  • Configure, maintain, and resolve faults within network systems supporting the Skynet Satellite System.
  • Conduct regular health checks on network infrastructure to ensure optimal performance and reliability.

Working hours: 37 hours per week, Monday to Friday, with a 1‑week rotation on call rota once fully settled.

Essential Experience
  • Working knowledge of digital broadcast technologies and how they integrate with network infrastructure.
  • Familiarity with satellite communications systems and their operational requirements is advantageous.
  • Hands‑on experience in configuring, maintaining and troubleshooting network systems.
  • Strong understanding of IP switching and routing, with the ability to diagnose and resolve complex network issues.
  • Background in telecommunications, digital broadcasting and/or defence/military environments.
Qualifications
  • Proactive mindset and strong willingness to learn and grow within a technically complex environment, backed by practical experience in network engineering.
Security Clearance

The successful candidate must be a sole UK national able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance.
