Job summary

Amazon Web Services (AWS) seeks a Network Development Engineer to build and operate the world’s largest cloud network. You will lead projects, influence operations, and own delivery of scalable networking solutions across data centers and global regions.

You will collaborate with top networking engineers, learn advanced tools, and contribute to sustainable, secure networking. A UK national with eligible security clearance is required.

Qualifications

  • Degree or equivalent experience in a large-scale network environment.
  • Experience with routing protocols in large data centres/WAN environments.
  • Experience developing engineering, deployment, or operations mechanisms for IP networking.
  • Experience in a technical on-call capacity, responding to customer-impact events and mitigating root cause analysis.
  • Knowledge of interacting with network devices via Infrastructure as Code or scripting.

Responsibilities

  • Leading network projects in sustaining engineering, deployment/implementation, scaling, technology refresh, best practices application, and/or optimization.
  • Influencing operations, responding to customer impact events and requests, troubleshooting, and improving automation.
  • Analysing the network with tools and metrics to ensure safe and secure operation.
  • Investigating technical issues scientifically and thoroughly to prevent recurrence.
  • Planning, delivering and simplifying new systems, processes, and tools to better deliver for customers.
  • Delivering sustainable and repeatable solutions and processes, removing bottlenecks.
  • Understanding new networking systems and developing safe implementation approaches.

Key job responsibilities
  • - Leading network projects in the areas of network sustaining engineering, network deployment/implementation, network scaling, technology refresh, best practices application, and/or network optimization

  • - Successfully planning, delivering and simplifying new systems, processes, and tools to better deliver for our customers
  • - Delivering sustainable and repeatable solutions and processes, optimising and removing bottlenecks
  • - Understanding new and upcoming networking systems and developing ways of safely implementing them into our environment

Basic Qualifications
  • - A relevant degree in a related technical discipline or equivalent experience in a large-scale network environment.
  • - Experience in a network focused hands-on technical role working with routing protocols/technologies and platforms in large scale data centre and/or Wide Area Networking (WAN) environments.
  • - Experience developing engineering, deployment, or operations mechanisms to support IP networking systems.
  • - Experience in a technical on-call capacity, responding to customer impacting events, mitigating and root cause analysis of those events.
  • - Knowledge & experience of interacting with many network devices at a time through any of networking configuration tools, Infrastructure as Code or scripting.
Preferred Qualifications
  • - Thorough understanding of TCP/IP networking, routing, and Network Security architecture and core technologies such as IP, TCP, OSPF, BGP, MPLS, load balancers, firewalls, ACLs, DNS, DHCP, IP address management.
  • - Knowledge & experience of Linux or other Unix operating systems
  • - Understands different networking hardware and packet forwarding architectures
  • - Proficiency in scripting/programming with one or more of Python (preferred), Perl, Ruby, Shell, Java, etc.
