Job Summary

We are looking for motivated and experienced Ambulance Drivers to join the Non‑Emergency Patient Transport Service (NEPTS) at Barts Health. The NEPTS transports patients who cannot travel to or from our hospitals using other methods due to medical or mobility conditions. All requests are assessed on medical need, providing transport from patients’ home addresses to NEPTS locations and returning patients home.

PLEASE NOTE – WE ARE UNABLE TO PROVIDE SPONSORSHIP FOR THIS ROLE. Check your eligibility for Health and Care Visa or Skilled Worker Visa before applying. Previous applicants within the last 12 months need not apply.

Job Requirements
  • 2 years driving experience and full manual UK driving licence required.
  • BTEC or NVQ3 equivalent education.
  • Good knowledge of UK geography.
  • Clean driving licence.
  • Advanced driving qualifications (desirable).
Responsibilities

The role provides safe transport for patients, including transferring patients to/from the vehicle using equipment such as wheelchairs, carry chairs, stair climbers or stretchers. Drivers maintain cleanliness of vehicles, report defects or accidents, and conduct dynamic risk assessments before transport.

Experience
  • Previous experience in healthcare setting, dealing with elderly or infirm.
  • Experience in patient transport environment.
  • Understanding of Data Protection, Freedom of Information and Caldicott principles.
  • Experience coordinating, reviewing and interpreting patient transfer requirements.
  • Experience reporting incidents and near misses, sharing adequate handover information.
